Inquest
« on: Thursday 02 August 07 12:14 BST (UK) »

I have just received a copy of my great great grandfathers death certificate and it states that

William Merrett dod 16/2/1892 died aged 75 years Inquest held 17/2/1892. Cause of death was stable heart syndrome.

My question is does anyone know if you can look up inquests in Devizes and why an inquest on a 75 year old with heart problems ?

Thanks,

Inquests were held for sudden deaths to rule out the possibility of foul play, particularly where someone was found dead.  I doubt this one would be considered worthy of a newspaper report, unless there was speculation about the circumstances of death, and there is no indication of the survival of inquest documentation for him on the A2A site for Wiltshire.
