Hi I am not sure if this is the right place to put this but....
I have been using Family Tree maker starter edition 2005 and I have been given for my birthday the who do you think you are family tree maker. Does anyone know if they are compatible, by that i mean if I save my info on floppy disc, (the starter edition won't let me back up on CD) Then uninstall the 2005 and install the new one, will I be able to transfer the info from the floppy discs. Or and this pains me to even think about I have so many names and dates and so forth will I have to print out all the info and retype it all into the new programme?
Advice welcome

Not sure, but from what I've briefly read on google it looks like they are compatible. Do you know how to export gedcom files from the program? If not, there's a guide here on how to export gedcom files from Family Tree 2005 http://member.melbpc.org.au/~mleeding/pdfs/Misc/Gedcom_Export.pdf
Then you will have to import the gedcom file into the Who Do You Think You Are? programme or otherwise....

Oh no, that's a shame, sorry about that Is there no way you can export information to at least copy and paste it from program to program? Good luck either way!

Hang on! Look on your computer for any files with the suffix .FTW and .FBK. They're probably in the same location as the Family Tree Maker Program. These are the data and backup files of all of your work. Make copies of them and put them into a folder within My Documents. When you have installed the new version, which will probably go into the same directory as the current one then everything SHOULD work as before. Your existing data should still be there, but if it isn't then you've got your copies. Peter
