Ure Family St Ninians - Completed
« on: Tuesday 25 November 08 01:31 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I am trying to find information about Agnes Ure, born c1826 in St Ninians. I have an entry for an Agnes Ure in the 1841 St Ninians census which I think might be her. Her death certificate gives parents as Daniel Ure and Agnes Patrick but I've found that quite often they give the wrong names.
Alexander Ure 70, a gardener; Mrs Ure 40; Agnes Ure 15; James Ure 13 a nailer; Jean Ure 11; Christian Ure 7; Mary Ure 4. I have tried tracing this family but have had no luck with any of them!
My Agnes married Donald McIntyre in 1846 in Port of Menteith and I have plenty information about her after that.
Any help really appreciated.
Liz

Hi Again,
I don't think I made it clear that the following information was from the 1841 St Ninians census:
Alexander Ure 70, a gardener;
Mrs Ure 40;
Agnes Ure 15;
James Ure 13 a nailer; Jean Ure 11; Christian Ure 7;
Mary Ure 4.

Hi Liz,

Have searched high and low for a trace of Daniel Ure on SP and the IGI but can't find anything like him. Sad I'm thinking Alexander could have been grandfather to Agnes, James, Jean, Christian and Mary, and that his son (?) Daniel was deceased before 1841. A pity Mrs. Ure wasn't mentioned by name in the census!

Closest I can see for Alexander's birth/baptism;

Alexander Ure, chr. 1st July 1770 at St Ninians, son of John Ure and Ann Robb

This isn't going to help you further back I'm afraid  Smiley

In some research I have been doing recently I came across a link with an Alexander Ure in 1881.

My Hogg family were in Cardrowan, Larbert Parish in the 1881 census with a granddaughter Christian born in 1879.  Her birth certificate  though showed her as Christian Hogg Ure born East Plean, illegitimate daughter of Alexander Ure, Joiner and Jessie Hogg, domestic servant.  Both signed the certificate.

Just thought he might be yours.

Hi,
I've solved my problem. The Agnes Ure in the 1841 census was indeed my ggg grandmother. Her parents were Alexander (not Daniel) Ure, born c1770 and Agnes Patrick born 1797 of Kilsyth.  Alexander must have died some time in the 1840's and Agnes Patrick married Gordon Ferguson in 1850. I found her in the 1851 census under the name Ferguson but with some of her Ure children still living with her. Her death certificate in 1862 gave her surname as Kilpatrick!
Thanks for the help.

Hello Liz,
I am a descendant from Alexander Ure's first marriage to Janet Wallace, I have only just learnt about his 2nd marriage to Agnes Patrick. Would like to hear from you.
Cheers

Hi there,

Not sure if this is a connection or not but I hope it helps.

My GGG Grandmother was called Elizabeth Marshall (b1823). Her sister was Barbara Marshall (b1835) who married Robert Reid (b1833), who's mother was Margaret Ure (b1806(est) in Polmont, Stirlingshire).

On the 1841 Census Margaret Ure was married to William Reid and living at Crosshall, Polmont, Stirlingshire with 5 of their children.

Any more info, just ask.
