Hi Barry

I'm still trying to search for Isabella's death - so far not found anything (and I've used Smith as well) - she could have died in a number of counties  Undecided

However, the only James Brown (nephew to Robert on 1891 and 1901), born at the correct time in Coldingham was born 28th August 1865 at Hollydown, Coldingham. He was illegitimate. Mother  was margaret Brown, agricultural labourer. No father's name given. The informant was what looks like Robert Brown, grandfather. Very poor writing, mind!

Did she have a sister, Margaret?

Have had a look at James as well, it could also be Adam Brown.

There are 2 Margarets in 1851 at Coldingham, age 9 daughter of Robert & Mary, she married in 1863 to a Thomas Fortune, the other age 13 father James, no connection.
I have no Adam that would match  nor any of the other siblings, could be another line

Had another look - you are probably right  Smiley

I've found the family of an Adam and Agnes Brown, on the 1861 in Coldingham ( 732 ED 1 page Cool, Holleydown Farm. There is a daughter, Margaret, aged 30.

No sign of a Robert or Isabella though (are they a different family?).  So if James was Margaret's son,  who was the James (nephew's) mother and where was he born?

I think I've found the Robert and Isabella family on the 1861. Have a look at Cairnhill, Duns 735 ED 4 Page 8 - Robert, aged 19 and Isabella aged 21.

They aren't mine then, Robert couldn't be found and Isabella was living in 1861 with Uncle Alexander at Houndwood,Reston
