BARTLETT, 1861/1871
« on: Friday 03 August 07 18:31 BST (UK) »

I'm interested in finding David BARTLETT b 1811 in Netherbury with wife Mary b 1813 in Chideock in the 1861/1871 census.  I cannot find them in 1881, so presume they have died.

Their later children are Mary Ann 1838, Charles 1840, Elizabeth 1842, Robert 1847, Eliza 1849 and Harriett 1851, all born Fordington.

Thank you, Linda

Hi there:

Wow, thanks!!

No I don't have the family in 1851.  Her "official" name would be Mary Diment Bartlett, but not sure if she used that middle name.

This should be them in 1871:

Alice Bartlett     4
David Bartlett    57
Eliza Bartlett    47

Frederick Bartlett    6
George Bartlett    9
John Bartlett    16
Mary Bartlett    7
Thomas Bartlett    14

RG10/2011/27/21

It' the ame one Newf found in 61 but its Eliza, not Mary.

1851, with Mary!

Charles Bartlett     4
David Bartlett    40
Eliza Bartlett    3
Elizabeth Bartlett    9
Ellen M Bartlett    9
George Bartlett    15
Harriet Bartlett    under 4 Mo
John Bartlett    16
Mary Bartlett    39
Maryann Bartlett    13
Robert Bartlett    4

HO107/1858/179/44

We may be chasing two different Davids unless Mary died and he married Eliza.

Paul:

Thank you so much.  I think based on what Newf found - the marriage of David to Eliza Trowbridge, and stepson Henry living with them in 1861, I think Mary has to have died.  That actually fits a pattern of her female siblings dying relatively young.

As summarised by Linda, David remarried - details were posted and highlighted.

Were there any occupations and PoBs in those 1851 / 71 entries Paul ?
