Cashing US checks
« on: Wednesday 12 August 09 14:47 UTC (UK) »

If I sent a check drawn on a US bank to a church in a small community near Kilmallock would they be able to get it cashed? If not what would be the best way to send a donation? Thank you for your help, Elaine D

If they can get it cashed they would probably have to pay quite a bit in bank fees and by the time the exchange rate was calculated they might actually get very little actual money. We've had this problem when children are sent money by US relatives and now the rellies just send US dollars to them and I 'exchange' them by giving children our local currency- this way they get money to spend and I have collection of US dollar for next trip to States.
You can get international money orders in America in Euros but might be best to check with your bank and see what they suggest.
