Hi All
I've lost my relation - that True - 'onest!!
Mary True[53 born Leeds] in the 1901 census is married to John True[58 born Lynn Norfolk] with lots of kids[eldest 19] all born and brought up in London.
Where are Mum & Dad in the 1881 census?
There is a rumour that Marys maiden name is Sheard! Where and When did they marry? I have found 2 Mary Sheard born in March 1844 in Leeds - but then except for a bad match with the Dobson family in 1881 found nothing!!
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
Keith

Hi Keith - I put on my deerstalker, took my violin and found out what your mystery is. Sheard was Mary's name from her first marriage as in 1891 at 19 Nestor St. Hackney she [42] and John [47] are living with entire army which includes Joan Ann Sheard -step-daughter 21! How do like them apples? For the record the others are Elizabeth 17, William 12, Catherine 10, Margaret 8, George 6, Edwin 4, Millicent 3, Albert 2. So what you are first looking for is a marriage of Mary to Sheard about 1869 or so. I'll leave that fun for you

Hi Hackstaple,
That's fantastic - just watched Jim Reeves on the latest "Who do you think you are" programme - and then you give me this!!
Also 2 extra [married?] older children -that's me off on another tangent - or is that a square
Once again this site with many friends turns up trumps.
Cheers
Keith

Keith - I did a very hacking in the rough. I worked on a premise that Mary may have married in her home town Leeds - that the marriage was a relatively short time before the birth of Joan Ann in 1870 [or 1871]. This gave me in ranking order - William 1869 Leeds Jun 5b 509 to Mary Myers. Then - Joseph Leeds 1870 Dec 9b 575 to Mary Massey. Then Edward Leeds 1870 Jun 9b 508. I then looked for a death of those some shortish time before the probable date of marriage of the Trues. I found that a William Sheard died Leeds 1873 Jun 9b 356. That would be about the right year for Mary to wear widow's weeds for a while and then to marry Mr. True about 1874 [Elizabeth's year of birth]. This is probably a ridiculous confection of fiction but - what if I am right

Hi Hackstaple
Will digest that! - but - seems strange that the Mary Sheard that I discounted from the 1881 census - married a Fred Sheard - but children are the wrong ages but there is an Ana!
Think you are more on the right lines - was just printing out all the Mary/Sheards got to Mar 1869 - when I thought I would see if you had replied! You work quicker than me - I was putting a photo of Leeds on my Tree Programme - to tidy it up!!
Cheers Keith
