3x greatgranny cooke
« on: Tuesday 07 August 07 11:30 BST (UK) »

Hi can you help me please.
my 3x greatgrandfather  William Cooke was born in Beetley Norfolk in 1789. I have found census forms from 1841 to 1861 which gives his wife as Mary and born in Great Massingham about 1789. All are given as living in Docking Norfolk. William was a blacksmith by trade
I know their first child William was born about 1815 and is listed in census as an idiot and finished his days in the workhouse.
I have not been able to find the marriage of William and Mary or their deaths for that matter.
Mary is given as widow in 1861 and a washerwoman so William died between 1851 and 1861.
My main concern is I would like to find who Mary was before she married william can you help please. regards Janet

Hi Janet

Norfolk marriage index has these two marriages

William Cook and Mary Wright married 5 Nov 1812 at Lyng

William Cook and Mary Wragg married 5 April 1813 Docking

Many thanks, that gives me a little to go on.

My gut feeling it is the Docking marriage I am looking for as the family appear there in all the census but no proof as of yet

hi again
great granny certainly had her problems I have found the 1851 census and her daughter Sarah unmarried living in Docking and a family of 5 children listed as Nathrel sons and daughters, and with her unmarried sister Martha. Sarah was born in Docking about 1821 to William and Mary Cooke. does anyone out there have any more on this family. janet
