Thank you Jan

It could be either one but the one I am after was a RETIRED seaman when he married Alison Bird in 1843 ( after their son was born in 1842.) Alison was a widow in South st Bo’ness in the 1851 census. So with the first being a carpenter the second looks most likely. I think this was probably a second marriage for James but his marriage record from OPR does not say if he was a widower. Hi! Jean
Thomas was my great grandfather. as far as I know there were no more children born to James and Alice however on Thomas' birth record it looks like James Grandison Senr. ret seaman. suggesting there was a James Junior. Everything points to James being a fair age when Thomas was born so chances are it was a second marriage.
cheers Miska

I am looking for burials in Bo'Ness for the Dick and Kirkwood families. I don't know if anyone can look it up for me or point me to where I could find out. Thanks!

Hi

There are a number of Dick and Kirkwood MI's in Bo'ness.

Can you give some first names, maiden names of women and dates or approximate dates of birth or death.

This would be a great help

Best wishes

Hi Heather

I think your in luck.

I've found the following:-

Bo'ness Church Wynd Lower

1.Erected 1788. George Dick and Margaret Har and Children

2. Alexander Kirkwood, farmer Hainings died 5/10/1867 aged 73. Wife Margaret Liddell died 10/5/1868 aged 72. Daughter,Mary died 11/9/1832 or 1852 aged 20 or 29.

Because of the name and the fact that this one is a farmer Hainings, this is probably one of yours too.

Bo'ness Church Wynd Upper

1. Erected 1836.1874. Alexander Kirkwood farmer Hainings died 19/6/1834, wife Mary Wilson died 5/8/1849, son James died 25/3/1871 aged 79. His wife Agnes Dunlop died 9/12/1869 aged 77

Best wishes

Thank you so much for looking those up for me! You're fantastic!
There wouldn't happen to be any dates for George & Margaret Dick would there, having a time finding any dates for them.

Hi Heather

The inscription is exactly as is stated in the booklet.

There is a marriage for George Dick an Margaret Hardy on www.familysearch.org.uk 28/12/1776 in Carriden.

Also births for 10 children to this couple. All born Bo'ness. I presume you already have these?

Also if you go to http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl you will see that three of the "children" appear in the 1841 census for Bo'ness. They are Murray, George and William.

Best wishes

Thank you for the info and the link for the census search. I have George & Margaret's marriage info, but only found 6 children. I searched the for the census you refer to but it didn't have any results for George.
The children I have are: Robert, Janet, George, David, William, Murray & Agnes.
I have the parish birth record for William & Murray (twins).
I have been using scotlandspeople.uk & familysearch for documents & info.

Thanks again,
Heather

Hi Heather

There is a George aged 50, a gardener, living in South St Bo'ness in 1841. It states that he was born outwith the county. That may be a transcription error. He may not be yours, of course.

As for the children you say you found 6, but you list 7.

I found the ones in your list except for Agnes. Can't find her. The others are Magdalene b. 13/5/1781. Archibald b. 18/1/1778. Another Archibald b. 6/5/1787. Margaret b. 22/5/1785.

Best wishes

Thanks Jean.
My George Dick was a shoemaker, so that's probably not him.
Thanks again for all your help!
