I am trying to find the death of Mary Tiplady, She Married William Tiplady in Mar 1898 at Tyneside. She was my Great grandmother. Her first husband Thomas Heslop was killed in a mining accident in 1891. But I am unable to find her birth as on her first marriage cert she was 28 in 1882, and on the 1901 census she was 53. Please can you help me find her Birth or Death Cert.

Hi Maggie What was her maiden name? Who was her father? Have you found her in any other census records? It would help if you can quote references if so. Where have you looked for the birth and death? Can we assume you have searched the full GRO index? Every little bit of infromation you have helps. Andrea

The Mary married to William Tiplady is born in Seghill according to the 1901 census but I cannot see a match for a Mary Heslop in 1891. When did Thomas die. Was he still alive at census time? Andrea

There is a Thomas, coal trimmer, married to Mary on the 1891 census and they have lots of kids. However this Mary is born in South Shields. I think I shall wait for further factual information from you. Andrea

Thanks Barbara..... Mary Richardson born Seghill shows up with parents John and Sarah in 1861 and 1871. Her date of birth is around 1848 in both cases. In 1881 she is still with her parents but shown as married - Mary Gillespie - and someone has put an amendment against the transcription to say alternate name is Mary Richardson. Not sure what to make of that but it does mean you should be looking for a birth around 1848. She probably lowered her age at marriage if she was older than Thomas. Do you have her second marriage certificate? Andrea

Hi Sillgen,
Thank you for your reply. I have the marriage cert of Thomas and Mary Richardson, the death cert of Thomas and the marriage cert of Mary and William. The one thing that I need to complete the branch is Mary's birth cert. On the 1901 census she is Mary Tiplady, and the children she had with Thomas ahve the surname Tiplady. But she is approx 10 years older.
Maggie

Hi Lizdb,
Firstly the sur name is HESLOP not HISLOP
Mary Richardson daughter of John and Sarah Richardson, sister of Floranna. Married Thomas Heslop on March 4th 1882 at St John's Newcastle on Tyne. They had 4 children John George, Mary Elizabeth, Florrie (Floranna), she was my grandmother, and Sarah. Thomas was killed in the mines on13th Jan 1891. On 12th Sept 1898 Mary Heslop (Widow) married William Tiplady at Earsdon. she was 50years old and he was 52. I am unable to find Thomas and Mary on any of the census, but I have found Mary and William Tiplady on the 1901. The childrens surname is Tiplady, but they were not adopted, my grandmother was a Heslop when she married in 1907.
