Badbury - KEEN(E)
« on: Sunday 12 August 07 00:36 BST (UK) »

I am looking for information on the Keen(e) family in Badbury, Wiltshire between 1800-1830.

I am looking in particular for Keen(e) baptisms in Badbury, and in particular I am keen to find the following:

James Keen(e) born Badbury c1811
Charles Keen(e) born Badbury c1827.

Hope someone can help
Matt

don't know wiltshire very well but there is a christening in broughton giffard of a james keen on the
3rd march 1811 parents william-sarah keen there are other children attributed to this couple
as i say i don't know if broughton is near badbury but if you think this could be the person you are looking for and want to know the other childrens details i will gladly post them
the christening is taken from the IGI and is an extracted record

I can confirm wozzle's find from the parish records in Broughton Gifford. This is the only James Keen b. Wiltshire  around 1811 in my records  Sad

PS Badbury is just South of Swindon so I don't think it's the correct one  Undecided

Thanks for those suggestions however I don't it can be the James I am after since Broughton Gifford is about 20 miles from the Badbury area and there are no other family links with Broughton Gifford. It is possible however that James was born in Badbury but baptsed in Chiseldon as this is where several of my Keenes seem to have been christened. If anyone knows of a Chislesdon baptism for James (1811) or Charles (c1827) please let me know.

Hi Matt,

These are the only two entries for James or Charles on the BVRI in Chislesdon, I am posting them although the years may a bit too far out, just in case they connect later? Both of these have siblings should you ever need them.

Charles Keene Born 3 November 1832 Christened 9 December 1832
Parents Richard Keene and Ann

James Keene Born 7 April 1806 Christened 6 July 1806
Parents Thomas Keene and Elizabeth

Thanks for that info. This James Keene is already in my family tree and is the elder brother of my ancetor Jane Keene (born 1808). Does the BVRI record any burials, as I am wondering if this James died and then there was another one in 1811.

Do you have any more info on Richard and Ann? I have a note on a Richard and Ann slotting into the tree somewhere but cn't find it. Any idea when they might have been married or when Richard was born?

Of course I only have James in the 1851 census at the moment and so I'm basing his year of birth on his age then. I am hoping to find him on the 1861 and 1871 census tomorrow.

On this 1851 census James is living in St George Hanover Square, London. Lodging with him is a William Richardson (b1835 Sleaford, Linconshire). Jane Keene (b1808) married George Richardson (b1808 Weldon) in 1834 in St George Hanover Square. George worked as a coachman for the Earl of Winchelsea and died in 1886 Halverholm Priory in Sleaford, Lincolnshire and in his Will mentions his eldest son William (his first daughter was born 1836 and all other children are accounted for). There seems to be too many connections for the William Richardson lodging with James Keene in 1851 not to be George Richardson's son, bt who was Jame Keene and how does he relate to Jane?

Hi Matt,

I have had a look at the National Burial Index (incomplete) no entries for any age James in Chislesdon.

The only marriage I can see on the BVRI in Wiltshire is in Broughton Gifford.
Richard Keen married Ann Goore 13 June 1799
Both were previously married.
FHL Film 1279347

Found this entry
Richard Keene Born 17 May 1802 Christened 13 June 1802 Chisledon
Parents Thomas Keene and Elizabeth
FHL Film 1279399

The Richard and Ann, parents of Charles had children Christened in Chisledon between 1829 - 1842

The James entry I gave you for 1806 had a sister Jane Christened 1808.

Hope something here may help Undecided

Hello Frances

Yes you definately have been a help. Jane Keene was my 3x great grandmother and I already had four siblings for her but I did not have Richard so thank you for that.

I think I have Richard and Ann's other children so I'll see if they fit into the tree now.

This might help place Charles in the tree, but if it does then I am still short of James (unless his age is wrong on the census and he was born in 1806 not 1811!

Thanks again for all the help.
