Rebecca HERRIDGE = Samuel COLLINNS - July 23 1853
« on: Sunday 12 August 07 10:11 BST (UK) »

Is anyone Researching Rebecca Herridge or Samuel Collinns who married on July the 23th 1853 in the Parish of Chepping Wycombe. If so I would be interested in making contact as to try to ascertain exactly who Rebecca Herridge is. On her Marriage Certificate her father was given as John Herridge (Blacksmith). I have not as yet found anyone fitting him or Rebecca on either the 1841 or 1851 Ancestry Census Database. I have used different spellings.

I am researching Arthur WRIGHT who married a Mary Ann HARADGE and lived in the High Wycombe area

Arthur was born 1812 in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, and died 6 Nov 1880 in Laura Place Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. He married Mary HARADGE on the  23 SEP 1833   in Little Marlow, she was born 1809 in Wycombe Marsh, Buckingham, and died in Jan 1874.

Arthur WRIGHT was involved in the riots of 1830 and had a sentance of death passed on him which was commuted to 12 months hard labour. On the IGI it shows his wife as Mary HARADGE but on my GGrandfather (James born 1850) her Maiden name was given as CLARKE.

Children of ARTHUR WRIGHT and MARY HARADGE (CLARK)  are:

Rebecca WRIGHT, b. Abt. 1831, Ealing, Middlesex,
Elizabeth WRIGHT, b. 13 Apr 1834, Christened 2 May 1834, Saint Marys Street Wesleyan, Chepping Wycombe,
John WRIGHT, b. 17 Sep 1835, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire,  d. 23 May 1888, Wycombe Marsh.
Eliza WRIGHT, b. 26 Feb 1838, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, d. Bef. 1901.
Ann WRIGHT, b. Abt. 1840, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire,
Susanah WRIGHT, b. Abt. 1843, High Wycombe,
William WRIGHT, b. Abt. 1845, High Wycombe,
Thomas WRIGHT, b. Abt. 1848, High Wycombe,
James WRIGHT, b. 8 Jul 1850, High Wycombe, d. 1884, Gravesend, Kent,

As Rebecca was born in abt 1831 and Arthur was in Prison I have always thought that Rebecca was not his child and that Mary had possibly been married before.

In the 1861 Census Rebecca Collins Place of Birth was given as born Wycombe but in the 1871 and 1881 it was given as Ealing. The age has always pointed to born in 1831.

Can anyone assist with any information that may answer my query.

TIA

Hi Allan

I read this post   and was about to have a bash at looking for Rebecca - when bells begun to ring...... Grin

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,192484.0.html

and I just wanted to clarify lest an search is mounted for her- that Rebecca at least  is apparently found in 1841 and 1851  (POB Ealing in 1851 and Bucks in 1841)  it's just that she is named as WRIGHT in both cases?  seemingly as biological daughter of her mother Mary Ann  but as you say perhaps not of her father Arthur, since she is born before the WRIGHT/HARADGE marriage took place (which named Mary Ann as a spinster),  and as you say, Arthur was in prison in 1831.

Cheers
