Banbury boatmen
« on: Sunday 12 August 07 20:17 BST (UK) »

I've been tracing my family's history and one line were boatmen from Banbury - Matthews, Knight and Slatter being the main family names I've found.
Is anyone else researching boatmen from Banbury (particularly these families) or could anyone suggest where I could find out more about them.
Many thanks

I don't have anything for you directly, but if you're ever in Banbury, the town museum is really worth looking at.  It features lots of photos and exhibits, as well as documents relating to the Boatmen in the town.

It's free admission too...definitely worth a look if you have interests there.  The tourist information office also sells quite a lot of local history books etc.,.

Thanks for that information Jenna. It could be a long time before I can get to Banbury though, as we live in France, but worth bearing in mind if/when we visit.
