Am I correct in saying that there are no 1891 census records for St Nicholas and Old Machar?

I'm almost certain  that there is an 1891 Census for St Nicholas and Old Machar.  If you go to ScotlandsPeople you can search for and download the names which you may be looking for.

I am also sure I have census pages from St. Nicholas and Old Machar, 1891. I have just done a quick test on Scotland's People and it is certainly showing results for those districts.

Just to show my ignorance, do I still have to enter a surname?

Are you looking for a specific person or people? If so, then yes, a surname and as much detail as you can give will help to narrow down the possibilities.

Have you used Scotland's People before? It is a pay as you go site - you will need to register and buy a number of units so that you can see the results of your search.

Yes I  have used SP before and so far it has cost me a small fortune.  I thought that as she became a widow with a daughter she might have taken refuge in a Poorhouse.  Oh well it's back to the drawing board and SP - it's a shame that one cannot enter birthplace for the census as it would narrow it down a bit!!

Thanks anyway
