Hi
I'm trying to trace a John Dobson in the 1851 census.
Genes ReUnited flags up a number in the correct age-range, but I can't use their - or Ancestry's pages - to check, so I'd be grateful if anyone could please look up the following one for me.
John Dobson, aged 70 in Carlisle
I am hoping that he is a cloth merchant / clothier / retired draper or something like that.

Thanks for the 'digging' that you have done, but I think that this one is unlikely, due to both the location and the occupation.
I could be wrong, but I think I'll discount him, ALTHOUGH ... it might be interesting to see the household, just before I rule him out positively!

Hmmmmmm ... Curiouser and curiouser ...
I'm tempted by the 'weaver' element, and it's interesting that you post up some IGI info as well.
Ideally I was hoping that my man would be born in Scotland.
I don't suppose that you can find this chap in the 1841 census? If you find him in Carlisle and still a weaver then that would rule him out as I already have my John Dobson in Doncaster with his son, John.
