George QUINCE Marriage 1816
« on: Wednesday 15 August 07 22:18 BST (UK) »

Hi am trying to find details of a marriage which took place between George Quince and Anne Worboys on the 26 Nov 1816 in Northill, Bedford.

Am trying to confirm Georges age, where he may have come from, any witnesses at wedding etc.  George is my brick wall, I believe he was born in 1796 or thereabouts but have no idea where he came from.  Not sure what sort of information is available in the marriage records this far back but anything would be of use.

Thanks in advance.  Mygenes

Looked at Northill PR transcripts (up to 1812) & there are no other Quince or Worboys names apart for this marriage.

To look at the marriage in 1816 someone needs to go the Beds Archives to view the microfiche. This will state the parish of each participant unless they are of this (Northill) parish. It will also state two witnesses, if you are lucky these may be family members, or it could be just the resident parish clerk. It will not state father's names.

You could send an email to the Archives quoting all known details, asking them to supply the information. I have emailed queries to them & got good info back without any charge.

Regards John

Care - that's a member submission, rather than an extracted entry, so is therefore unreliable.

But checking the Everton PR transcript it is right - 16 May 1790 George Quince, son of John & Susanna. John Quince bachelor married Susanna Barnes spinster both otp on 10 Feb 1778 at Everton.

It still remains to link the George who married in Northill to the George baptised in Everton (there are no other George Quince's baptised in Beds at the right time, and bear in mind that virtually all of Beds pre 1812 has been extracted onto the IGI - Everton, whose church was actually in Tetworth, Hunts, being one of the exceptions). Hopefully the marriage entry may shed light on this. If not a ray of hope is that George and Ann named two of their children John and Susanna (although most couples named a son John!). Their first child seems to have been baptised at Guilden Morden, Cambs, and the rest at Sandy Beds - and in 1851 Ann Quince widow age 62 gives her birthplace as Guilden Morden. She was living in Beeston in both 1841 and 1851 which is only 2 1/2 miles from Everton, the other side of Sandy, and part of Beeston at that time was a hamlet in Northill, which might explain why they married in Northill. And Guilden Morden is only 7 miles from Beeston.

I can't find a burial for George, which is niggling me! It might help to confirm that he was born 1790 rather than later - where do you get the 1796 from, or is it just assumed from the marriage date?

David

PS Your impressive website has details taken from the marriage cert of James Quince and Sarah Darler dated 24 Dec 1833. I think this should be 1838 - the detail you give wasn't included in marriage entries before 1837

Hi thank you all for the wonderful replies.  I hardly know where to start.  It would appear there is a very strong possibility of the child George being the one from Everton, i hadn't realised they were so close.  I too have been unable to locate this death but it must have been pre 1841 as Ann is listed with 3 of her sons and a daughter in law at the time and no mention of George.  They were living in Beeston at the time.  Not sure where the 1796 came from.

I will try emailing the Beds archive and see if I have any luck.  On the IGI records they spell Annes name as Warboys not Worboys.

And yes David you are right about the marriage being 1838 not 1833 so I need to go to the website and make the alteration.  Not sure quite how I did that but there goes, thanks for noticing it.

Thank you to everyone for trying to help me with this birckwall.  I am now going to look at the John and Susanna line to see if I can find out more about it, plus email the archives.

Everton PR has not been extracted onto the IGI - if you need anything checked let me know. I have the transcript which goes up to 1812
