Scotlands People are showing a death for Elizabeth Perry, other name Rutherford, in Brydekirk in 1927, aged 78.

In 1881 Andrew is down as surname Rutherford, aged 5 months, b. Kirkpatrick Fleming - staying with his grandparents, John (43) and Elizabeth (42) Rutherford in Kirkpatrick Fleming - ED 6 page 7

Hi gadget
The Andrew i mentiond living with Elizabeth andWilliam on 1891 census is age 20 and he is named as Andrew Tennant
In 1881 Andrew age 10 is with his mother Margaret Tennen also other sibling,s and  Ellen Rutherford aged 68 why he as gone to live with Elizabeth and husband i dont know suppose i will have to look as to where his mother as gone i dont think she is in Brydekirk at this time.I do knoe Ellen died in 1887 so may be Margaret just up and left with her children once her mother died
Do you know which site for the main newspaper for Annan around this time
             Thank,s Heather

Hi Heather

You said:

I was sure that might have been him on the 1881.  I now see that you meant 1891 and he's listed as 'stepson'.b. Brydekirk.

I think the Ewart (D&G Archives) would be the best source for newspapers -

http://www.dgcommunity.net/dgcommunity/places.aspx?id=1

or the main library site:

http://www.dgcommunity.net/dgcommunity/places.aspx?id=42

Incidentally, I'm looking for a John Rutherford in the 1840-50 period - probably not related but Im always on the look out  Smiley

He visited Canada in the 1840s from Kirkcudbrightshire.  I think he would have been born circa 1790-1800 by the sound of the letter.

That's all I have on him and he might give me a clue to my ancestors  Undecided

I'll dig out the letter and send you a PM with the piece about him.

Hi Heather  Smiley

I know that he visited Mary Carson (b. c. 1775) , nee Burgess in Dumfries before he went to Canada. He stopped off in Toronto with John Burgess and then went on. I think Uncle John gave him some money.  From the sound of the letter, I think he was going back to Scotland though but I may be wrong. He would have been of a similar generation to John and James Burgess - 1779-1785-ish.

The only ones showing in D or K in that time period is the one you mentioned (Canonbie, 1782) and one in Kirpatrick Juxta in 1780 - father,  William. However, there are a lot of missing baptisms aroundthat time - neither James, John or Mary are showing, for example.

There are lots of Mary Bells in D&G as well. I think one of the Carsons married a Mary Bell in the 1820s/1830s.

I'll have to dig out the letter because this is all from memory.

I think I've found William Parry/Perry on the 1901 - no sign of the others so far:

High Street, Annan - ED 1 P 5
William,Perry, 52, Labourer (navvy), b. England

I like you found William Perry last night could not find his wife Elizabeth and i looked under Perry and Rutherford for her unless she moved into England for a while but she moved back sometime because she died in Brydekirk
Also i tryed to look for Andrew Tennant who was living with her and William Perry no luck with him they seem to have both moved away the same time
Also Margaret Tennant Elizabeth  sister  and her youger  children have gone at the same time, Water who in 1901 would have been 22 john 25 and Mary ann 26 although must admit not check for death,s yet or i wonder if thy all moved together because by this time there mother Ellen Rutherford had died
The only one i can find is George age 31 living with his wife still in Brydekirk
As for John 1782 i have some time today so i will have a good look to see if i can find anything new out for him
