Mountbagnall and Annaloughan
« on: Friday 17 August 07 19:49 UTC (UK) »

Hello,
I would like to find out more about these two places.  I believe they may be close to Dundalk and the sea, although one may be 'up the mountain' .  My Dad who is 80 remembers going as a young boy to see his great uncle - not sure of christian name but surname is Fearon.   Can anyone shed any light on where to look?

Thank you.

Hi Jan,

I've to contact a friend about two Parish Priests in Co. Louth. I'll ask him about Mountbagnall and Annaloughan when I contact him.

Christopher.

Thank you, any information would be really helpful in locating these areas.   I've only just returned from holiday so please excuse the delay in replying to your message.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Jan,

I'm sorry. I've bad news. I've mislaid his business card. I thought he would be on the local government website for Co. Louth but he's no longer there. As soon as I find the card I'll send him a message.

I may be able to get the council office to assist me in contacting him.

Christopher,

Thanks, if you do manage to find out that'll be great but don't worry if you can't.

Hi,
I know your post is quite old but was wondering if you have had any joy with your search?
My grandmother (mary fearon) was from sleivenaglogh which is next to annaloughan. Just wondering if this is any help or if i can provide ou with an more details as I still have quite strong links with the area.

Hello Nicola,
Thank you so much for your reply.  Since I first posted my message I have found my gt. gt. grandfather Michael Fearon and his wife Mary Hanlon on the Irish 1901 and 1911 censuses.   They were in Slievenaglogh and Michael was described as a farmer.   Michael was born about 1841 and Mary about 1840, they were married in Lordship RC Church, Rampark Townland in 1869.   Their children were Peter, Patrick b. 1872 (my gt. grandfather), Thomas, John, James, Margaret and Ellen.

Patrick came to Liverpool and married Mary Ann McMannus in 1897.   Mary Ann's parents were James McMannus and Mary nee Fearon who I understand was from Omeath, but I don't know where James McMannus hails from.

Do you recognise any of these names?  Is Omeath very far from Slievenalogh?   I understand one of Patrick's brothers - possibly John, had a shop in an old railway carriage or close to the railway line - not sure how accurate this is but perhaps you may know.

Would love to hear from you and perhaps you could let me know what the area was like and how it's changed over the years.

Best wishes

Lordship is the church at the bottom of the mountain. omeath isn't very far at all. if you google it, some pictires will come u of the mountain.
To be honest, I havent really got started with the fearon side of the family yet so I dont really recognise the names!
