Dodds of Co. Durham
« on: Thursday 16 December 04 07:56 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I'm trying to find a place to start researching the family tree, but I'm seriously short of information. What I know is as follows:

My maternal great grandmother's surname was Dodds who married Blight. They had at least 3 children; Henrietta (b. 13 June 1909), James (Jim) and Jack.

I believe Jack was killed in WW2, Jim died a few years ago, and Henrietta died this year.

It's possible that my great grandmother's first name was Elizabeth, but I do know she had a sister who emigrated to Australia before WW2.

Sorry, not a lot to go on... wish I'd asked my grandmother (Henrietta) more while she was alive. The whole family came from Co. Durham, although I believe the Blight branch was originally from Cornwall, with my great great grandfather on this side being a miner.

Does anyone have any information that may be linked to this branch of the family?

Have you noticed that there is also a lady on this site (Marilyn3 in Oz) looking for 'Dodds' families in Gateshead? - and another lady with MN 'Dodds' who responded?

I am currently going through the 1861 Durham Co census returns and I am making note of all entries of the surnames relevant to my family tree. Dodds is one of them and I have found 96 separate families so far with lots more returns to go through still. If anyone has any particular Dodds's they want to find I will be happy to see if I have come across them yet.
