Privatly baptised Great Waldingfield

According to the baptismal entry for 1900's my grandmother was privatly baptised....
Her mother was single and from south of the country.....
I would like to know if anyone could help me please?
If my grandmother was baptised in this way was it usual to baptise her in church or the place where she was born?
All i have is private baptism great-waldingfield with the name of her mother and stated that she was single not an address only where her mum was from ..
I have spent many years on this tree and i am just fitting in the missing two years from the time my grandmother was born to her adoption...

Hi,

I have a couple of ancestors who were baptised privately. I always assumed it was because they were not expected to live, and the priest was brought to them at home, but I haven't found any definitive answer as yet.
