CHALKLEYS & WILTSHIRES of St Ippollits and Hitchin
« on: Wednesday 01 October 08 16:12 BST (UK) »

My grandmother Dorothy Chalkley was the Daughter of Joseph chalkley and Emma Hailey. Emma aparemtly died when my nan was young (teenager) and Joseph remarried! I can't find their marriage.
They lived in Hitchin. Josephs father was Joseph Chalkley (1845) and he married Caroline Wiltshire. Caroline was the illigitamte daughter of Charlotte Wiltshire who later married Chales BAiley. I think it was Charlotte that had a shop in st ippollits (i think?). Going back to the chalkleys. Josephs fatehr was William Chalkley and Ann turner ((1812). his father was samuel,, then Samuel again, All living in St ippollots. I have been told there are still Chalkleys there today. It would be great to get any information regarding the Chalkleys or Wiltshires

Two plausible deaths for Emma:

Emma CHALKLEY
d? SepQ 1914, Hitchin RD, 3a, 677, aged 51 [1863/64]
d? MarQ 1919, Hitchin RD, 3a, 1083, aged 43 [1875/76]

It might be worth your contacting the St Ippolyts Local History Group:

http://www.hertsdirect.org/comdirectory/comvol/herit2y/hthist3y/876308

They've published some books on the history of the village and may be able to help with the shop connection.  They're also transcribing the parish records.
