Hi Anne,
Have you tried asking for help on any of the lookup boards?
If not, I'm sure if you can give us a few more details we can make a combined effort in trying to find him?
Kindest regards,
Pels

It's quite common for people to vanish and reappear. Several of my lot do that. There are a few explanations:
a - they managed to avoid the Census (no hope of finding them) b - the Census man misheard their names (keep trying) c - Ancestry mistranscribed the names (keep trying) d - the were abducted by aliens (sell story to News of the World)

I was hoping for some reason he would pop up on Findmypast.com!
I have some credits I would dearly like to get rid of before they expire - but nothing there I'm afraid, so it's back to Ancestry .. ..

perhaps we should try to find him by ruling all the other Charles Andersons in the 1871 census out, (quite a lengthy task)
according to 1901censusonline there are 33 Charles Andersons on the 1871 census b.1848 +/-2yrs
the trouble is we don't know his wifes maiden name and it looks as if they married circa 1871 also. The children were born in London so maybe he is a lodger there. maybe he is still with the parents in 1871, Thomas & Sarah. that would help immensley!)
i saw a marriage in Islington in Q2 1871 but that was a Charles David Anderson, and also a marriage in Croydon in Q3 1873 - would this be after the birth of the first child? there were 14 Charles Anderson marriages 1871 - 1873 all qtrs, in additon to this there were 9 Charles (Middle Name) Andersons, if only we knew where he was in 1871.
