BAYLEY Family of Burnham
« on: Wednesday 22 August 07 18:23 BST (UK) »

In the slight hope that someone else may be researching this family, I post a plea for help!  Cry

I'm stuck on Thomas Bayley. He married Margaret Woodwell/Woodall in Cookham,Berks in 1708 but they lived in Burnham. He left a will in 1767 which I was hoping might give some clue as to where he came from, but no!  Cry

I've checked the Surname Interests but no one seems to be researching them. Perhaps someone who hasn't yet added their surname interests?

I live in Hope (just south west of Desperation!!).

Jill

Crikey, Toni, you have been busy. Thanks everso.

The 1767 will gave the names of some of his children - which I'd already got - but no siblings.

Of the marriages you've found, the 3 Burnham ones are all marriages of his children. The 1740 Mary Bayley/John Dawson marriage is my direct line.

If you have found any marriages pre 1708, I'll be very interested.

Thanks again,

Jill

Hope these help, a couple of things i noticed marriage 4 is for a Mrs Mary Bayley so presumably this is not her first marriage and marriage 3 for Anne Kimpton, in the original she is listed as Ane Kimpton.

Thanks, Toni.

I've made a note of them for future reference in case something comes to light.

I'm beginning to think that he may have come from further afield than Bucks.

Thanks so much for your help.

what were his childrens names?

sometimes they name children after their parents don't they that might give us a clue.

i can look further afield for Bayley marriages if you like, but without knowing one of his parents names it will be hard to find which one is correct.

Hi,

I've thought about this possibility before but it's so hard to confirm a connection - that's why I was hoping the will might have thrown something up.

Thomas & Margaret Bayley's children were, in order: Jane, Margaret, Mary, Ann, Thomas, Mauris (son), Sarah and Elizabeth.

Thomas's wife Margaret's parents were William & Jane, so, as they didn't have enough sons to name one William after her father, I'm thinking Thomas's father was probably Mauris/Morris/Maurice and possibly his mother was Mary.

A nice unusual name - Morris.

I think I vaguely remember coming across a Morris Bayley marriage in Surrey but it was to a Thomasin rather than a Mary - and no reason to link the two together.

Do you have a Marriage Index for the whole of England? Or just for a few counties? I'd be really grateful if you could look for a Morris Bayley - and wouldn't it be just great if the entry actually said 'of Burnham, Bucks'!

Thanks for your help, Toni.

Is familyrelatives.com a subscription site? There are so many but I'm not sure if I've come across that one before. If it has marriages for all those counties, it might be worth investing in!
