Is anyone able to look up a baptism at HALS for me?

I have a William Sear that I have been pursueing via the censuses, but he cannot be found in the 1841/51 census. The Williams that are there are not the correct ones. See

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,231749.0.html

It has been suggested that the way forward on this may be to look up the baptism. The details I have are as follows:

William Sear b c1831 Hemel Hempstead, Herts (the 1861-1881 all agree with this year of birth and birthplace. The 1901 census shows his birth year as c 1828 St Albans, Herts, but William is in a Workhouse then, which may explain the discrepancy)

William married 25.11.1856 St Bartholomew, London, and his father is listed as Richard Sear, occupation Baker.

So if a baptism for William Sear b c 1828-1831 Hemel Hempstead, with a father Richard Sear, a baker could be found it would just be wonderful Grin

I hope this isn't too confused.

Hi Claire,
Thank you for your reply. Still not sure this is my William as he may be too old, but will add him to my (growing) list of possibles.

It may be an idea to widen my search out to St Albans as well as Hemel Hempstead....how many William Sear's can there be with a father called Richard?Huh Grin

If anyone comes across a William Sear b/ch c1828-1831 Hemel Hempstead/St Albans with a father Richard who was a baker in 1856 (on son William's marriage cert) could they please shout from thr rooftops Grin

Hi Beverley,

I searched the Allen Index and found the marriage of Richard Sears to Maria Rolph at Hemel Hempstead on 23Jun1822. The HH PRs record the baptism of William s/o Richard and Maria, labourer of Leverstock Green, on 28Oct1822 followed by Richard 28Aug1825 and Benjamin 06Sep1829 ( Father Richard shown as a labourer at Hoblets for the last two)

Hope this doesn't add to the confusion.

Peter,
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to look William up for me. I will mull this over for a while and see what happens!

I've had a chance to look into the family of Richard Sears and Maria Rolph of Leverstock Green, Herts. Their son William ch 28.10.1822 Leverstock Green, married a Margaret and they are the couple from the 1851 census. Margaret's birthplace is Chatham, Kent. This rules them out as my William and Margaret, apart from the birth year for William being wrong, my Margaret was born in Co Kerry, Ireland (info from 1861 & 1871 census)

This still leaves me with William Sear(s) b c1830 Hemel Hempstead,( married Margaret Sweeney 25.11.1856) father Richard Sears, occupation Baker.

He cannot be found on the 1841 or 1851 census and the only Richard Sear turns out to be the wrong one.

I really don't know what my next move should be and am open to any suggestions.
