With surname searching on SP, always either check  soundex or use wildcards. With jamieson, I'd recommend  J*m*son  Smiley and only use a few letters for first names. With Jean/Jane/Janet variations,  I only use J. You'll then get them all  Smiley
Eliz/sabeth/Elspeth/Isabel/Isabella/Euphemia are also problems and Peter/Patrick.....etc., etc.

The following Jamieson (variation) couples were having children in Dundee 1825-1830:

James Jam(i)eson and Elizabeth Hynd/Hind
George Jamieson and Agnes C(h)richton
John Jamieson and Cecily Easson/Eassie
Martin Jamieson and Margaret Cameron
David Jamieson and Margaret Clerk
Alexander Jamieson and Agnes Urquhart Scott
James Jamieson and Janet Speed
James Jamieson and Ann Irons

Any or none of them could be the parents. Do any of the names come through in the children?

This was Robert's marriage, spread over two pages, and his parents were not mentioned.

I've no way of knowing, because by 1851 Robert was married, so no clues from his siblings on census like you could normally use, and I can't find him in 1841. And it appears Robert only had the one child - Jane.

Your lucky day  Grin

Robert died 22 April 1890, a cab driver, aged 65. Merchiston Mews, Ediburgh.

Shock horror - married 1st to Jane Lightbody, 2nd to Margaret Telford.

His parents were Robert Jamieson, cab driver, dec (??) and Ann, maiden surname Young (dec).  Jane Russell, his daughter was the informant. Looks like he had a stoke and suffered from cardiac disease (dropsy).

Your Robert, widower of Jane Lightbody, aged 50, married Margaret Telford, aged 28, spinster, in December 1877. His parents' dfetails were as before but his father is now listed as a coachman.

Gadget you're a genius. How on Earth did you find this? And.....what would I do without you? Thank you so much. I'm assuming I'm still working with Dundee here for his parents. Onward!

Hi KA

I did look before I picked up my laptop and moved south by 7 hrs  Grin

Couldn't find anything. It might be worth looking under Young. Also, as the father was a coach driver, they could have moved around and Robert had vague memories of Dundee!

Well yes, I know from bitter experience how reliable <cough> birthplaces are on censuses. Trouble is, when people move, they don't leave any notes for future researchers..........................
