Allen/Allan family Dunmow 1850->
« on: Friday 19 March 04 05:24 UTC (UK) »

hi,

Im looking for the Allen/Allan family John Allen married Caroline Sutton (of Great Canfield) in 1844 in Great Dunmow.

They had 6 children as of the 1861 Census as follows:
John, 44, Great Dunmow
Caroline, 43, Great Canfield
Sarah, 12, Great Dunmow
Charles, 10, Great Dunmow
Elizabeth, 6, Great Dunmow
Harriett, 8, Great Dunmow
Lydia, 4, Great Dunmow
Alice, 1, Great Dunmow

Alice is my great, great grandmother. She and her sister Lydia were living in London in 1881 as housemaids. Their father had died by 1881 (dont know where or when) and their mother was head of the house (the dwelling was The Ford, Great Dunmow) and she lived with unmarried son Charles and grandchildren William and Alice (mother and father is not know). I believe William may have died in 1883 and in 1891 Alice the granddaughter was living with Alice her Aunt. Caroline died in 1900 in Dunmow.

If u know anything it would be very much appreciated.

thank you very much Tara

Hello Tara,
               I am not quite sure what you are after, but I guess an 1841 census check is the question for Gt Dunmow?
               I took a look in Gt Dunmow & Lt Dunmow, and only found one Allen, a Catherin Allen, Nurse, in Lt Dunmow. I must admit I do a quick scan, so still worth checking an area thoriughly.
