On 25 May 1783, Charles Armstrong married Sarah Larkinson in Houghton Conquest, Bedfordshire.
They had two children in Houghton Conquest - Charles b 1785 and perhaps Aolti Mira b about 1789.
They then moved to Graffham in Huntingdonshire, where they had at least 3 more children. IGI records are incomplete for Hunts, and there is nothing for Graffham but member entries. The following come from other evidence – census returns and the will of Charles b 1785.
Sarah b about 1791 who later married Christopher Smith
Thomas b about 1797
Philip b about 1801
Does anyone have Graffham PRs for this period, who could establish the above - and any others - as children of Charles Armstrong and Sarah during this time?

Hi Wendy
Graffham is one of the many Hunts parishes which the LDS was refused permission to film. So the registers have not been extracted onto the IGI or BVRI, nor is a transcript available from Hunts FHS
You'll either need to go to Huntingdon Records Office, or use their research service which is efficient and not expensive - details at

I have them pretty well confirmed from census returns and a very explicit will made in 1841 by Charles Armstrong b 1785, which names all his surviving brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews. The nieces were living with him in Wootton in 1841, which makes the link even firmer.
Baptisms would be the gilt on the gingerbread! Even so, I may check out the link you posted. Huntingdon is no longer a stamping ground of mine, although many years ago I lived at RAF Wyton. Pity I wasn't doing this job then!
For your interest, these Armstrongs are the "posh" lot from Ampthill/Houghton Conquest. But oddly enough, several of the "ag lab" lot also ended up in Graffham via Hawnes and Goldington - in 1841 one of them, William (son of George who was son of William the Methodist of Wilstead), is farming next to Philip.
I am sure there is a link somewhere....

You may have solved a problem for me with this, David:

Charles Armstrong, b 1712 was the son of Thomas Armstrong the JP and his wife Frances Thompson.
Charles married first to Elizabeth Collier, and second to Althamia Priaulx. He had 4 or 5 children with Althamia, all of whom are alleged in Burkes to have died without issue. Althamia appears to have died in 1753, buried in Ampthill.
HOWEVER...
Charles 1750 certainly survived, married, and produced children in Houghton Conquest and later in Graffham - who were the subject of my original query.
AND
A document on BLARS dated 1788 names a John Armstrong as son and heir at law of Charles, late of Houghton Conquest, decd., son of Thomas and Frances. He would have been at least 21 at this time, as he was dealing with leases for land and property, so born before 1767. The document ends with an extract from his will, naming his wife and daughters, and appointing as his executors Charles Armstrong of Wootton (see above, posh lot) and William Armstrong of Hawnes (ag lab lot). I found him in 1841, aged 70, with his wife and daughters.
But where did he come from and who was his mother? Charles' wife Althamia was dead. Given later links with Graffham, the marriage you've found could be a third marriage for Charles b 1712, which produced the mysterious John (and perhaps others?).
Charles 1750 moved to Graffham after 1785 - Charles 1712 died before 1788. It seems possible that Charles 1750 moved to Graffham to take up inherited property there on his father's death, while John inherited the Houghton Conquest/Ampthill land and property.
Hmm. That would account for there being no baptism on the IGI for John b about 1767 nor a third marriage for his father. It begins to fall into place...
