I would appreciate help in seeing if Frances Jones, born c 1827, not in County is on the 1841 Census of Manchester please. Her father was Griffith Jones and from her marriage record it states he was a farmer, he also was not born in the County possibly one of the border counties of Wales-Shropshire. Frances married in Manchester in 1847. She was living then at 20 Bridge Street, but unfortunately it does not state if this street is in Manchester or its environs. Any help would be appreciated please. Thank you, Pat

Hi Pat,
Who did Frances marry? Do you have her on 1851 census as this would give her birthplace, which would possibly help find her in 1841 - if she was on her own there are too many of that name without more details, no Frances found living with father Griffith in the Manchester area,
Kind regards, Barbara

Dear Barbara
I have searched and searched both the 1851 and the 1861, nothing! The 1841 was my my last hope, so thank you very much you for looking for me. I think that she may have died shortly after the birth of her daughter, Ellen, in c1847. Frances married John Roberts. I do not have Ellen's b.c. because there were for the time too many of them. I will try at some later time to get this if I can eliminate some of them! Perhaps I am focusing too much on the Manchester area, it is just that Ellen said she was born in Manchester in the 1871 census and unfortunately she died before the 1881. I did think that probably there were too many Jones' and my big hope was that there would not be too many Griffith Jones born c 1800 around that time in Manchester and obviously from your searches there were none! Thank you anyway for looking for me that was very kind of you, some of my mysterious ancestors seem to always, either from misfortune or not, dodge the enumerator. Kind regards and many thanks again. Pat

Why not try a search of the 1841 census on the 1901 uk census site.
A search for Francis Jones with a one year margin and no place entered produces only 53 results.

Thank you Barbara, do you know I have never noticed that you could do that via 1901 census. Such a boon when a family name has been mistranscribed by other sites. Have you ever heard about going up or down the wrong tree!, sometimes using the Family Search can really put you on a wrong branch, but in my case that is not due to any mistake on their part but more my inability to think laterally! Now got the right father and mother for my Ellen, without a doubt, so thank you for your work and my apologies too, but I did learn a lot about other parts of England and Wales in my searches. Kindest regards and best wishes and many thanks again for all your help, Pat
