Hi Does anyone use Picasa to organise their photographs? Is it a good package and what are the benefits?
Also can it organise photos that are in different folders ie some on my hard drive and some on my external hard drive.

Hi Kerry,
I use Picasa2 and think it's very good - having said that I'm sure I don't use it to it's full potential.
It's quite easy to uninstall if you aren't happy! Give it a go and see!

Hi Kerry
Just seen this
I downloaded Picasa a while ago just to have a look at it. I thought it was a tad overbearing - it tried to collect all my graphics files from my PC and went on and on - as I have masses of image files, as you know
If you want to organise your files rather than manipulate the images, it's a bit of a long winded way of going about it!.
I just organise mine, as meles does, in My Pictures with separate folders for different categories - family photos, with subfiles for each line, landscapes, art, etc. . You can then sort these in any order you like using the standard MS 'Arrange icons by' in the View Menu.

Thanks Gadget
That's the sort of honest answer I wanted. I already do that with most of mine and the folders correspond with my CDs for regular backing up ie Holidays, days out with children, wildlife, fun, family, history etc
So if it doesn't do anymore than I've already got because I'm quite organised, I don't think I shall bother.

Another good thing about Picasa is that you can upload pictures to Picasaweb so that other members of the family and friends can see your holiday and family photos.
My printer software did the grabbing thing as well! I was not amused as it took ages!

Three Brothers Knight out on the road...almost!

Hi Kerry
I stated using it a while back but keep forgetting to use it...so I probably don't use it to it's full potential either. Like Gadget and Meles I have my photos organised into folders so I can generally find what I want easier just by going to the folders...but there are a couple of things I like
Firstly I like the way it displays all the pictures at once and you can scroll through all the folders really quickly and see larger than normal thumbnails. If I do that I often come across photos I had forgotten about.
Secondly, it will go and search and find all your pictures for you and centralize them - so if you have some photos hidden away in odd places you can find them. Useful for those times when you have saved pictures in a hurry and not filed them properly.

Thanks Milly
The thumbnails is the one thing I found attractive about Picasa but then I have Irfanview which allows you see large thumbnails of photos too.
