Buswell family, need help searching
« on: Saturday 25 August 07 23:27 BST (UK) »

Mary Buswell who married Henry Palmer Was born 1860 Clipston Northants and her mother was named as Betsy Buswell of Clipston c1825. No father named and Mary's birth sertificate.
I have looked at all the census and all i can see is a Betsy (Elizabeth, Betsey!) born 1825 around for 1851,1881 & 1891 (later two living with ther daughter Mary A) but can't find her in the the 1841 with her family or 1986/71 (obviousily in the 1861 she would have Mary by now. Mary is found in the 1871 census in a leicestershire orphanage.)

Can any one help me track the misisng census links. I think Betsy's parents where Jesse and Rebecca?

Thanks so much, I can't believe I missed all that. However i did see some Buswells but the names didn't match. So does that look like the other Buswells named are relatives?, is there an easy way for me to find those census?
Many thanks

Hello
All those Buswells were on the same page as Rebecca on the 1841 census, so I presume they are somehow related the other names were just households in between the Buswells.

// are separate families
/ are separate households in the same house.

Jesse  and family are listed in the same area but folios and pages away.

Ages are rounded up and down on the 1841 censuses.

I am a member of Ancestry are you?

You need to be very careful about Buswells in the Clipston area.  There are a very large number of them and while they are probably related some of the links will be back in the in the 16th century.  It seems to be the traditional home of the family.  Certainly it where the extinct barony came from.  Despite the fact it has been proven to be extinct you will find a number of pedigrees particularly in the US which claim descent from the barony.

I have only just started looking at that side of buswells, so am new to what i may find, however there life styles don't seem to be one from Barony. When did the Barony become extinct? So far i have onlt got back to late 1700's. Any help on this name would be great.

If you PM me with your early names I may be able to help as I have a number of early trees for the Buswell family in the Clipston area.  The baroncy arises as follows.

George Buswell alderman of London died 5 May 1642 age 77
George his son married Elizabeth Kinnesman
George their son was created a baron in 1661 and died without any heirs in 1667 age nearly 42.  All of his siblings predeceased him except his sister Anne who died in 1669.  She was the second wife of Sir Easeby Pelham who died in 1681.

They had one son Easby Pelsant who assumed the name of Buswell by virtue of the settlement of his uncle Sir George.

Their son Eusby Buswell esq of Clipston was created a baronet in in 1713. and had only one heir a daughter Frances who married Christopher Horton around 1730 and the baroncy died.
