Can anybody help? I have a Peter Mayman in the 1881 census at Brompton near Scarborough aged 71 (ref RG11 Piece 4807 Folio 43 Page 21.) In the 1891 census his wife is described as a widow. However I cannot find a record of his death. Am I missing the obvious? Any help appreciated Thanks for your help Brian
Probably not who you are looking for but there was a Peter Maynard who died in 1890 in Scarborough aged 78 vol 9d page 285. Any chance they made a mistake in the name, i had a quick look at the 1881 census and i couldnt see a maynard in Scarborough
Well done Mafric - I was just about to write saying that perhaps the name had been misrecorded. I tried Maymon, Maman and Mamon on freebmd without getting anything remotely like but I did not think to try Maynard.
Of course, it may be that the record is there for Mayman but freebmd has not yet picked it up. I was going to slog through a few index images to see if I could find a Mayman of about the right age but the internet is getting busy and I cannot get the images.

Hi Mafric and O1dgobbo, You have both done exactly the same as I have done I searched FreeBMD and came up Peter Maynard. At least I have not missed the obvious. Regards Brian
Hi Mafric & O1dgobbo, Just thought that I would let you know that I have been in contact with the Register office at Harrogate that has the Scarborough rregisters. In their records they have Peter Mayman dying in 1891 and not Peter Maynard. It therefore looks as though there is an error in the GRO indexes. Thanks for your help Brian
