Whitby photographer named Wallis
« on: Monday 03 September 07 17:45 BST (UK) »

Can anybody help me ?
Im trying to identify a man in a photograph which has the photographers name stamped on it " **** Wallis of Whiby.
Does anyone know when this studio was open and for how long.
The pic seems to be over a hundred years old.
It was found alongside pics of the Readman family.
Another one says " Mary J Readman born 23rd July 1875, no stamp on this one.
Having another guess it looks like George Wallis / Willis Huh

Hi,

I don`t know if this is any use but it may help to pinpoint a rough date:

The 1861 has a George Wallis aged 31 Photographic Artist born Roxby and living in Hinderwell.
1871 he is a Photograph Artist living in Ruswarp, Whitby
1881 he is a Photographer living in Whitby
1891 visiting in Roxby  occupation was "not in Business"
1901 living on own means.

Regards,
Mo

Thanks Mosiefish,
that has helped me a lot, especially my eyesight because its so feint.
I was hoping to prove that it is the husband of Mary J Readman and this helps a little.
Even if it is 30 years.
Thanks again
