Registration areas for West Yorkshire
« on: Wednesday 29 August 07 09:05 BST (UK) »

Morning all  Grin

Having just spent the weekend in Yorkshire I have found the grave of my direct ancestor buried at St. Peter's, Hartshead along with various other graves of other ancestors!

I've now checked the entry on the BMD as he died in December 1848 and it's come up as Huddersfield.  He lived all his life in Clifton, nr Hartshead and St. Peter's was their church.  All the baptisms, marriages and burials are there.

My question is does Clifton/Hartshead come under the Huddersfield registration area, I always thought it was Halifax?

TIA

Hi Jan,

I think you were right and it should be Halifax  Undecided

Thanks Tati for the link  Grin that's going to be very useful.

It has just occurred to me though, he may have died in hospital and the death is registered where it happened not where the person lived.

In the 1841 Census there is someone of the same name and approximate age in hospital so that may well fit the bill.  As far as I am aware there is also only one entry for that time with that date so I think I will take a gamble and go ahead and order the cert.

Thanks for your help.
