Sarah 1820 and John thorpe 1818 and Leake, Lincolnshire
« on: Wednesday 29 August 07 14:30 BST (UK) »

I am stuck.  I know that Edward Thorpe 1848 was born in Threekingham, Linconshire.  His parents were John Thorpe 1818 from Leak and Sarah 1820 from Helpringham, Lincolnshire.

I can not seem to find a 1941 census for John Thorpe that matches.  Also  Is there any way that I can find out Sarah's surname name prior to her marriage to John.

Also Sarah was in the 1881 census (61 years) and John was in the 1891 census (73 years).  As they were both living in Leake at the time, does anyone know if there is a graveyard there?  If so, I can pay a visit to see if they are there.  If not where would someone from Leake be buried?

Thank you so much.

They were probably buried at Threckingham (read about the place http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LIN/Threekingham/ )

John 14 Feb 1895 (77)
Sarah 29 Oct 1888 (69)

(no one of the right age buried at Leake)

thats fantastic.  I don't know how you managed to find out the dates of their deaths and the fact that they are not the right age to be buried at Leake, but you have helped me already.

Thank you very much.

Is there any way that I can find out if they did go to Threckingham, before rushing off to find their graves?

A marriage at Helpringham seems likely-

16 July 1839
John THORPE (son of George) to Sarah HILTON (dau of William)

(found in the Sleaford spreadsheet, available at http://s10.freefronthost.com/mi/index.html )

The burials were in the National Burial Index.

I am very impressed.  I did try that link though, and it wouldn't let me access it... said it might be down.  So I will try again later though.

Thank you.
