Hi Rosie
you said they married in Devon before the 1841 census.... I have found this on IGI (extracted info)
Arthur HUBBARD to Nancy DAMERELL 14 april 1841 St Giles Cripplegate, London
I cannot find them in Devon in the 1841 , maybe we should look in the London area !

Thanks Deb
I am looking for this for a friend and was going on what she told me so will have to recheck with her. If this is the marriage (she didn't give me Nancy's maiden name) then I think I will have to search it anywhere. I was going on the fact that Nancy was born in Shaugh Prior and she and Arthur were in Devon in 1851.
Many thanks anyway, I'll complete this search and try again after I have spoken to her midweek.

It all looks rather interesting in 1851 where Arthur is the 'Govenor of the chamber" for the Earl and Countess of Wickham? ....
I will try to find them in 1841 ..maybe Arthur was working for him still . The Earl was born in Dublin , maybe they were all in Ireland ?
Also, the Earl and Countess' children were one b c 1825 in Paris and the other 2 in 1832 and 1835 in London. Arthur and nancy were married 1841 in London .... maybe that's were they are ....

Seems I completed too quickly - Yes I understood they were working for someone from Ireland. Perhaps that is where they were. I tried to find them some time ago when the LDS family history centre's had full Ancestry access so was hoping some fresh eyes would help as I can no longer search it myself.
Thanks Rosie

Hi Deb
Well done finding the Countess, was the Earl with her? Shame that Arthur and Nancy were nowhere to be seen.
Fraid I've got to go out now, I'll be back in the morning.
Till then - many thanks Rosie

The Earl was not in his chambers that day .......
Cannot find him in 1841...Am not sure how to look up an Earl His name was Thomas Forward Howard, Earl of Wicklow? , born 1788 in Dublin, Ireland. His wife was Cecil Francis, Countess of Wicklow, born in London.
I am sure if we find the Earl we will find the 'Govenor of his Chambers' ...Mr. Arthur Hubbard (who has been transcribed in 1851 as Hubbar )

Hi Deb
I have been G**gling Earl of Wicklow hoping there would be some mention of him c1841 but no luck. It would appear his first name is actually William as was his fathers so probably called Thomas to stop confusion. I am sorry but I have no suggestions as to how to find an Earl particularly on the 1841. He could have been anywhere. I think I will check with my friend whether she has Arthur and Nancys marriage cert, it should give his occupation. I will see what more I can find out when I see her on Wednesday.
Thanks for all the information so far, I will let you know what I find out.

Deb
Have spoken again to my friend, the marriage gives Arthur as a Servant living Stanmore Middlesex giving no other information. We are not convinced that he is actually working for the Earl at this time though could have been working for his wifes family the Hamilton's who at some point lived in this area so she is now looking at this possibility.
Thanks for all your help with this
