Thanks for all your info Valda. I'm glad I suggested looking up the PRs. However I didn't expect there to be parallel parents for 4 children.

I do know that George was given his middle name by his mother whose maiden name it was. It is not a very common middle name and still quite rare for a child to be given 2 first name at that time. Therefore I find it difficult to believe that there could be 2 fathers with exactly the same name having children baptised in the same church on the same day!!! Possibly the vicar made a mistake - not the first time that's happened

It would seem, as you recommend that I will have to check the original source - does this involve a visit to Godalming or can it be viewed at an IGL centre? At the moment my money is on Sarah & George. I will also check the Wills

Either way whoever were the parents, 3 losses out of 4 must have been horrific - assuming that Ann Haines's death was the same as one of the above children. Sadly it closes another Haines line

Simon

you can visit a Family History Centre and order the film for a nominal fee and when it arrives view it.

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp

Alternatives ly you can visit the Surrey Record Centre where most Anglican churches (in non-metropolitan Surrey) willl have long since deposited their older registers.

You can aslo visit Godalming and see the church and churchyard and the town.

The Vicar or church clerk in the parish register indexed on the IGI clearly indicates a mother's name of Sarah. The Mormon church member who may never have even looked at the parish registers when they submitted the information from their researches to the IGI stated Harriet. The IGI which belongs to the Church of the Latter Day Saints is a mixture of extracted information from church registers and information supplied by Mormon church members, some of which is accurate, some partially accurate and much else frankly ludicrously poor guesswork.

Is this look up now completed?

Hi everyone,
I have been reading these messages with total confusion.  I have a connection with George Charman HAINES and Sarah SMYTH thru their daughter Mary HAINES born 1825.  Is there some dispute as to who George married, either Sarah or Harriet?

Mary HAINES marr. Richard MOLINE in 1855.  Does anyone have any connections with MOLINE side of the family.

Hello

The Haines family is my mother's mother's. These are the details I have for:

GEORGE CHARMAN & SARAH’S FAMILY (g g g grandson of Richard Haines 1633-1685)

George Charman   bap 1/4/1789 Godalming Surgeon, m 13/1/1825 at Chiddingfold d Bath Dec 1876 aged 88
Sarah (nee Smith/Smythe)  b 1796 Chiddingfold (only 2 of them in 1841 census and with 4 servants and Jane Napper b 1833 visiting)
Mary  b 2/12/1825 bap 13/1/1826 Godalming m Richard Moline 8/2/1855 d 10/2/1903 Bath son George H Moline b 1858 Wilton Place, London
Percy  b 28/9/1827 Godalming bur 22/11/1828 St Peter & St Paul Godalming
Harriet    b 12/2/1830 bap 17/3/1830 Godalming bur 22/2/1832 St Peter & St Paul Godalming
Anna  b 17/7/1837 Godalming bap 16/8/1837 bur 15/6/1838 St Peter & St Paul Godalming

Richard Moline was the 7th child of Robert and Mary nee Pritchard, the grandson of Robert and Elizabeth nee Kidd and the g grandson of Robert and Ann nee Sparks who probably came from London

I believe also that Robert Lewis Haines RA (son of Robert & Ann nee Moline- g g g g grandson of Richard Haines 1633-1685) m Amy Marion Moline in Clifton, Bristol in 1890. She d in 1932

Can you clarify the confusion re George Charman and Sarah/Harriet
