Hi, sorry can't help you with the baptisims but there is this death:~

Ann Eddy, Penzance Q4 1870 age 26 (5c 240)

and this one

Jane age 26 Q3 1869  Penzance (5c 182)

and

Jane age 28 Q1 1871 Penzance (5c 216) - should she be on the census?

finally

Margaret Ann G age 21 Penzance Q1 1869 (5c 255) - is she too young to be the mother of Thomas age 4 (in 1871)?

looking for a marriage to tie in with the childrens births (and the deaths above) there is this one (on FreeBMD)  that is puzzling me:~

Richard Eddy Q3 1865 Penzance (5c 507) and on the same page Elizabeth Cocking & Jane Williams

Many thanks for the Link Kris  Smiley, very handy....I could only find a CD on sale for St Ives but no joy with the Baptisms or Marriage for any of  them.

Toni, that is puzzling because on the 1881 he is calling a Jane his wife, and  children are not born to them until 1880...when they have moved to another area Undecided
Maybe his first wife was a called Jane  Huh  but it would make sense to me if I could have found a death for the Elizabeth Eddy (Cocking). marriage  to Richard Eddy in 1865

Thanks to both of you for the help....it's given plenty to think about.

Hello Ambers
I was in the St Ives Archive this morning and managed to do a small amount of digging for you.
In one of the family files it indicated that Richard married 2 Janes.  There was also a birth cerificate for John b 1869.
Can you confirm that the family you are after moved to Chester- le Street?

Hello Ambers
I think this will need some sorting out and checking!
The birth certificate was for John Eddy b Halsetown 14 Jan 1869.  Father Richard Eddy Tin Miner.  Mother Jane Eddy formerly Williams.
Jane Eddy died 5 August 1869 and is buried at Barnoon Cemetery.
The marriage of Richard Eddy to Jane Williams is stated to be 10 September 1865.
Richard's second wife is stated to be Jane Ninnes.
As the family was living in Halsetown in the 1871 census I checked the Halsetown baptisms but had no luck. I also checked whether the Richard Eddy/Jane Williams marriage was at Halsetown - it wasn't!  Nor does it seem to have been at St iVes Parish Church.
It is particularly strange that there is a Jane Williams in the household in 1871 as a servant.  However there does seem to be another connection with a Williams family as I believe Richard's parents may have been William Eddy and Mary Williams.
The trouble is that there are rather a lot of Eddy families down here!
I can check the burial of Jane for you and try to find the baptisms of her children. I can also take a longer look at the file to check for further evidence/information. That will probably be on Thursday next week.
Is there anything else I can check for you?
Barbara
Which Eddy are you descended from?

Hi Barbara... thank you for all that information. Grin

This is my Brickwall, and I have already  followed the wrong family once, so this is the other possible family.

My connection is Richard Eddy born c1871, father Richard Eddy a Miner, his age must be incorrect on his marriage certificate when he married Eliza Jane Thomas (Janie) in 1898 . The Witnesses were John and Margaret Matthews (nee Ninnis), her father was John Grenfell Ninnis and Mary possibly Eddy

I have just found in Free BMD search Jane Ninnis married a Richard Eddy 3qtr 1871 Redruth... but it is odd that their first child together was born 1881

It would be great if you could find the Baptisms for the three children, and anything else you think would be relevant.

This is very kind of you...only wish I could be there myself.

Hello Ambers
Just a bit more information please.
Did your Richard marry in Penzance RD in 1898? Which church - or was it the Register Office? What was his occupation and where were he and Eliza Jane living?  Was Eliza a widow?
Have you found the couple on the 1901 census and do you have a death date for Richard?
Just trying to get the whole picture so that we don't go wrong again!

Hi Barbara F,

Marriage June 22 1898. The Parish Church,St Just. By Banns

Richard Eddy 27?--Bachelor --Pendeen---Miner--Father Richard Eddy Miner.

Eliza Jane Thomas--24--Spinster-- Higher Tregesal--Father. Nicholas Thomas--Miner.
Witnesses: John and Margaret Mathews.

1901 Census.RG 13/2257 F66 P11
Living with her mother Eliza Thomas -58- at Higher Tregeseal
Janie Eddy (Eliza Jane) dau--married 26
Richard Eddy--G/son--2

I can't find Richard Eddy in the 1901 census, he is not in Durham with the rest of the family.
This Richard Eddy was dead by March 1903 from his daughters Doris Eddy birth certificate March 1903.
One death registered for a Richard Eddy 1902, in the Will there was no mention of a wife or two children...this is the family I previously had thought I was connected to.

Janie Thomas didn't re-marry until the end of 1908, which was odd in those days, there is also a death for a Richard Eddy 1907 Huh
She had gave his profession as a Gold miner on birth certificates of children BUT on Richard Eddy b1899 Marriage he said his father was a COAL miner.

The St Ives Richard Eddy was a tin miner, then coal miner, so possibly could have got involved with Gold mining after meeting Janie because her family were.

One lesson I learned...going wrong can cost a lot of money..and then you have to start again Roll Eyes

Thanks for that Ambers.

So this death reg

Deaths Sep 1902
Eddy  Richard  31  Penzance  5c 153

is definitely not your man? Do you know which Richard Eddy he was?

Have you found baptisms for the 2 children?  If not, I will see if I can find anything in case they give any more clues about their father.

Birth Certificates for Richard and Janie's Eddy's children:

Richard Eddy.
1st January 1899--father Richard Eddy--Gold Miner. Mother Eliza Jane Eddy formerly Thomas:  Higher Tregeseal, St Just.

Doris Eddy
22 March 1903--father Richard Eddy (DECEASED) Gold Miner. Mother  Eliza Jane Eddy formerly Thomas: Higher Tregeseal, St Just.

The other family:
Richard Eddy that died 1902 ,at 31 years was the son of Richard Eddy and Sarah Trembath...all details appeared to match until I received the Will. He had left something to each of his siblings and his mother, it was written a month before his death.

Going back to the Eddy's that moved to Durham, I contacted someone from this family some time ago, from memory John and Thomas married two sisters in Durham but she didn't know what had happened to Richard either or that his father had married twice.

My family gossip  Roll Eyes Huh Roll Eyes

Richard Eddy born 1899, always said he was a Devon man born and bred, No, he was born  in St Just, Cornwall but moved to Devon when his mum re-married when he was nine.
Of the Gold nougat he had been passed on to him, it came from his uncle who had been a Gold Miner in Johannesburg...did he never see his birth cert because it says his dad was a Gold Miner Huh.
On his marriage cert he says his dad was a Coal miner.. Doris his sister just states her dad to be a miner on her marriage cert.

With Janie also not re-marrying until about seven years later...I am beginning to wonder if there is more to the family than what was spoken about. Undecided
