Informant on Death Certificate
« on: Sunday 02 September 07 00:09 BST (UK) »

I ordered a copy of a death certificate for my great great great grandmother Elizabeth Harper who died 1878 in Claverley, Salop which arrived today.

Where it says - signature, description and residance of informant - it states "Elen Brugger - Sister in Attendance, Claverley.
Has anyone come across this terminology before.

I don't think it means the sister of my ancestor but wonder if it was a Nun or a sister from a hospital although I think my ancestor died at home.

Usually it means who was attending/looking after/ with her at death .

I have listed on a few of mine "daughter in attendance"

Ellen could possibly have been her sister or sister in law ?

Suz

Thank you very much for that info.

Maybe Ellen registered the death as "Sister" in her professional capacity as a nurse, but I will do a bit of research to see if there was any family connection.

Best wishes
