I am looking for the parents of Mary (middle initial of L or S) Ackland, born circa 1863, and Charles G Ackland, born circa 1865, both at Herriard, Hampshire.
In 1881 Mary is with an uncle named Frederick Blunden in Basingstoke (I'm not sure how he fits in).
Charles is in Yorkshire with parents listed as John and Elizabeth Kidgell (presumably this is a second marriage for Elizabeth)
I would be grateful for any assistance with this.

Cant see - in FreeBMD at least - a marriage twixt John Kidgell and Elizabeth Ackland - in fact no relevant John Kidgell marriages at all.
He's a bit older in 1871 (as it were), in Sussex with an Edward Kidgell, also born Oakley, Stationmaster of Cuckfield .....

Ref the 1881 Kidgells ..... and Elizabeth, the wife of John and presumably mother of Charles Gascoigne Ackland.
The only Ackland marriage I can see to a Gascoigne is this one in 1861, which fits with the 1881 Elizabeth saying she was born London .... assuming the couples were partnered that way of course !
But the marriage is a Susannah .... and William is not related to the Family of Acklands shown later ....

Its initially hard to see how Frederick Blunden fits in with no wife there ....
In 1871, he and a wife Mary Ann (born c1842, Lasham, Hants) were visiting in Walcot, near Bath. Frederick was already a Wine Merchant (& Chemist) ...
which helps to pin down the marriage ...
Marriages Sep 1862 Ackland Mary Anne Marylebone Vol 1a Page 1026 to Blunden Frederick
so he is an Uncle by marriage - presumably to Mary and Charles' Father's sister !
So now we know that the Acklands were from Lasham (near Herriard - and today the biggest Glider airfield in the south !)

Or are there older sons around ?

Cant see John yet ...
This might well be Daniel, age only a tad out, and correct RD of Basingstoke for Herriard et al ... also explains why he's not on the 1871 census, and perhaps why the kids are with a relative.
Deaths Sep 1869 Ackland Daniel 31 Basingstoke Vol 2c Page 117
Overall I'd say Daniel is the Father you seek.
BUT GET the BIRTH CERT for Charles that RainbowUK found ..

should have spotted this sooner ... Elizabeth Ackland in 1871 - she IS the lass who married Daniel - look at the surname of the Visitor!
This must be the dwelling of Frederick and Mary Blunden - whom we saw visiting friends near Bath in 1871 - the kiddies are theirs I guess, and Elizabeth is their Aunt by marriage.
I guess she eventually paired up with John K, but it doesnt look like they married.
So I think we can say that your original question is answered :-
The parents of Mary S and Charles G Ackland were Daniel Ackland and Elizabeth Balkham
1871 - RG10/1234; Folio: 14; Page: 21 - Basingstoke, St Michael Market Place, London Street Elizabeth Ackland (neι Balkham) 29 Widow Sister-In-Law HouseKeeper born London
Mary S Balkham 18 Visitor London
Children deduced to be those of Frederick and Mary (neι Ackland) Blunden
