Hi there,
There is a marriage of a Mary Topping in Wigton district Mar 1839 (Wigton 25 125). It would be a young marriage but not impossible. FreeBMD lists four brides but only three grooms under this reference, so obviously there is a groom missing. Have you ruled this marriage out?

Hmmm. Oh well, it was a long shot 
The other thing I wondered was whether the marriage to Mr Dixon (he actually seems to have been John Milburn Dixon, rather than John William Dixon) might have been very short-lived, but there's no obvious sign of an early death for him or a remarriage of Mary as Dixon.
I'm stumped, for the time being
