1851 Census for lennoxtown
« on: Monday 18 July 05 22:25 BST (UK) »

I anyone has access to 1841 or 1851 census returns for Lennoxtown I would be really grateful if they would check to see if there is an Alexander BAYNE and his wife Isabel (she may have been called Agnes though) living there.   I'm not sure how old they would have been but a good estimate would be about 50 in 1851.
Any information on any family living in Lennoxtown with the surname Bayne would be gratefully appreciated
many thanks

I do not have access to the full census but I do have access to an index for the 1851 census for Campsie which includes Lennoxtown.  I can only see an entry for BAIN, as follows:

Enumerator Book 3, Page 34, Family 46, Location Lennoxtown

John Bain Age 36, born Greenock
Anne Bain Age 26, born Campsie

There is nothing under Bayne at all.  Hope that may be of some help.

Hi Cleo,
Thankyou for taking the time to look up the details for me.  I'm not sure if they are the same family but it gives me something to start checking out.
Many thanks for your time

Jenny,

I guess you've seen the record on FamilySearch of an Alexander BAYNE bap Campsie in 1808.

An Alexander BAYNE and Isabel/Isobela/Isobella DRUMMOND had the following, all Campsie:
Cathrine bap 10 Aug 1799
Ann bap 16 Jun 1800
James bap 18 Feb 1802
Alexander bap 1 Mar 1808
Isabel also bap 1 Mar 1808

Dear JAP,

I have noted your many postings on this forum with awe.  Have you any advice for somebody trying to pursue family named  - variously - Docherty, Dougherty, Doherty  - but of whom there seemed to be at least six unrelated strands in the parish of Campsie in the 1880s?

Should I treat the fact that each family has differently named forebears as proof that they are in no way connected, or should I presume that they are - back in Ireland - and I have simply failed to research them thoroughly enough?

Hello All,

Would love to share info on Leckie family of Campsie/Lennoxtown areas.

Looking for info on James Leckie and wife Margaret Stewart McCauley both born 1805. He was son of John Leckie and Janet Minzies.

John was possibly son of Alexander Leckie.

Any and all information appreciated.

I only have pre 1855 Monumental inspcriptions for West stirlingshire - think helen, cath and eliz died after this! I will keep a note and the next time I am checking stirlingshire will have a look for you.

Happy hunting
