Looking back in time for Chas Glasby's lineage, he's with an Uncle and Aunt in 1871 and 1881 ...
so his Dad was this John's brother (or, mabe his mother, unmarried was a sister ... )
Doesnt seem like we are going to see them on a Census ....

Masbro' seems to be about 10 miles from Chesterfield - sort of Rotherham, if thats right ?
It doesnt show up specifically as part of the Chesterfield RD, but I think this must be our mans Birth Entry ..

Back in 1841, before John marries Eliza, here is with his parents .... I suppose Joseph could just be a sibling candidate who might have sired Charles in 1863/4 ... altho, theres scope for another bro/sister in that age gap after John .....

Hi
Thank you so much for the masses of info.
I think the answer to Charles' parentage is only going to lie in his birth certificate.
I checked other members of my family on the WW1 medal register and found a couple who were awarded medals. Thanks again for the link it's proved a very exciting find.
Very best regards
Amanda

Joseph and Selina (Maiden name was Gelsthorpe remember - enumerated as Elinor) are in MOSBRO' in 1871, with a daughter .... so why was Charles (assuming he is 'theirs') still with Uncle John in 1881 ?

Yes, just interesting trying to pin down the source of Harry's middle name ..... Joseph and Selina are still alive and well in 1881, so its either a pure coincidence that Charles was with his Uncle on 2 census years, or slightly more sinister
Have fun sorting it - do come back and tell what the Certs reveal ...
