Hi
I was wondering if some kind soul - with a lot more knowledge that I - could find my husbands paternal grandfather and his ancestors?
His name was Cyril Edward Scrase b: 31/10/1912, d: 2/1/1945. He was a commisioned officer (I think) in the 1st Batallion of the Royal Sussex army regiment. He had 2 brothers Frank - who was in the Navy - and Reginald - Army (Royal Sussex) - and 1 sister Dorothy.
Cyril married Frances Florence Clare Blencowe. I have her family ok but can't seem to get a lead on him !
Any clues
Thanks,
Sandie

Has a big Red + sign in FreeBMd, so only recently added ...
Births Dec 1912 Scrase Cyril E Finnigan Brighton Vol 2b Page 393
so now we need a Scrase marriage to a female Finnigan ....

Now you have a choice, altho the 1st chap is the most likely ...
Frank Scrase; Parents - Benjamin, Emily born c 1885 Brighton, Sussex
Frank Scrase; Parents Frederick, Elizabeth born c 1885 Ditchling, Sussex
Frank W B Scrase; Parents - Alfred P, Martha M born c 1887 Horsham, Sussex
You will have to obtain that Marriage cert to confirm the Fathers name against these finds ...

The bride to be is more straightforward, even giving her middle initial on the 1901 census ...
RG13/942; Folio: 32; Page: 4 - Parish of Preston, Shoreham area 54, Viaduct Road Clara W Finnigan 16 Boarder HouseMaid - Domestic born Brighton [There is a note that she did not sleep on the prmises, which is strange given the purpose of the census]
Thomas H Hillard 27 Head Electrician born Brighton Emily S Hillard 24 Wife West Drayton

Hi Sandie,
Frances Florence Clare Blencowe was my first cousin, which thus means your husband & I are cousins too. I don't have much info on hubby Cyril but do have much on the Blencowe line including our connection right back to 1308. Am happy to share if you want to PM or e-mail me.
Regards, Mark

Hi
Just browsing Scrase as my Gt Grandfather was reputed to have changed his name from Scrase, although I have yet to find evidence of this!
Anyway saw your message but see others have found what I have, although I found it on the FindmyPast site. (Tip: Since 1911 the birth records recorded the maiden name of mother)
I have found Cyril on the CWGC site. He was a Lieutenant in the Royal Sussex Regiment, service no. 199550. Buried at Patcham (All Saints) Churchyard extension.

Hello anyone who may be researching the Scrase families in Sussex, I am at the moment transcoding the FreeBMD scans covering 1924 4th.Quarter, and came across babies born Palmer,Philip L.C.,Mothers name Scrase, Lewes,2b,Page 221 & Parkes,Leslie,G.,Mothers Name Scrase, Brighton,2b,277
hopefully this might help any of you who are working with this family name. My reason for noticing this thread was that I hadn't seen the name Scrase before and wasn't sure if I had read the scans correctly.
Kindest regards
Alan Duckett
