Tayler Family in Oxford around 1800
« on: Saturday 18 December 04 02:51 GMT (UK) »

I am a New Zealander who has traced his family back to Oxford around 1800.I an a direct decendent from Henry Tayler (b1801? m Matilda Scrimpton 8 April 1824 St Ebbes). I have mention of other Taylers, Joseph,m Sussanagh Wite 1791 St Ebbes, their sons Thomas Baptised 7 Mar 1792, and Joseph baptised6 April 1800 both at St Ebbes.
Any info anyone has would be welcome, I have at least two emigrations to NZ from the family in 1850 and 1864.

I have found this family with Harry Taylor  working as a cooper married to a Matilda  with two children at home  Rebecca 27  dressmaker and Harry  39 compositor.  Do you think these are your relations  as Taylor is spelt with an o and not an e. Which is possible all those years ago.

Thanks for the info, yes it could be but to be sure we need the dates. The occoupations do tie in.  I did find an incorrect spelling in the 1851 census return but the ages did tie in.  Perhaps the popular harry was substituted for Henry.

Could you please advise dates.

Thanks again

On the marriage index for Oxfordshire Joseph Tayler's wife is Susannah Wise.( Tayler spelt with an e)

Thanks - I had checked the 1861 census but the family's were not living at the addresses they were in 1851 or 1841 10 Albert St, or 5 Pembroke St or 19 St Algates.  The age of Rebecca ties in, She was born around 1833 (1841 census) and eventually emigrated to NZ in 1864 to join her elder brother George who emigrated in 1850.

Thanks again
