Hi All,
I am in the process of uploading to my site....a program that will tell me how many visits it is having plus a lot more..info..
Silly me ....I had uninstalled coffeecup...so am uploading by hand..from my site....
What i have noticed is that .....some folders are named with a capital....which when uploaded has changed to ...lower case.....isn't this going to be a problem later....?
Should I have just uploaded everything with coffeecup which wouldn't have had inner folders....
can someone help.

Hi Jo,
what's the program ??
The RootsChat server is running under Linux, so if a script (program) looks for a file or folder, it looks for the exact name i.e. with large and small letters, exactly as written in the script.
Try it and see ! If it doesn't work, we can carry on from there.
Should I have just uploaded everything with coffeecup which wouldn't have had inner folders.... Sorry, I don't understand that bit

Oh relief...Bob..I so need your help....
phpmyvisites...
is the program...to monitor every hit on my site......except. I can't make heads or tails of permissions...
It says that if you open it in a browser ...it will activate it . but i have a lot of errors.....(permissions) to set...which is what I don't understand what I am suppose to write.....
and which ones need different numbers....
I will get the page for you...

Hi Jo,
by the look of it, the program expects a precisely defined Folder structure on the website.
Try reinstalling CoffeeCup

This is the instructions...(above) .I don't know if rootschat..complies with what they require...or not...
but , now my issues are with permissions..I don't know what permissions are required for the folders.

Sorry all,
I have had such a scary ride...that I have deleted all the above files and am counting my blessings...
I lost my site for a while...so now that it has returned I won't be going down that path again..
I love my site...........and ..I thought I would like to keep track of the visitors....as my bandwidth nearly passed 1000mbs.....last month.
but .......I will just be grateful that all is back to normal...
unless anyone has a simple way of keeping track of traffic.
that might be a good topic..

Hi Jo,
I had a quick look at the demo for phpmyvisites. It looks very comprehensive, but I wondered whether it was a bit too much of a good thing for a private website. I can understand a business needing that amount of detail but US ?? 
If you don't mind someone else doing the counting for you, then why not try something like statcounter. it's free and provides all I need to know.

I was trying to reply to your other post, but Bob was in the process of locking that (no wonder I kept getting bounced). As I'd prepared this, I thought I would share it with you!
I use two lots of stats
For free, StatCounter provide a detailed log of the last 100 visits, and "all-time" record of number of page loads and visitors (new or returning - cookie dependant).

If you have a google account, you should be able to register with Google Analytics. This is much more powerful (and you can monitor more than one site).
http://www.google.com/analytics/index.html
Both approaches require you to insert code on each page of your site that you want to monitor.

Well I have joined Statcounter.....(how easy was that)
Now, before I choose which way to go....re...pages to put it on...
Can you tell me is there an easy way to get it on all pages.....
I use PHP.....is there a particular page I should find.....behind the workings of my site?
Or should I be happy with my front page only. ??

I use Statcounter on all my pages.
You can use an include file with the statcounter code in it.
I put it in with my lower navigation bar which goes into all pages.

Oh by the way, for those who do not know, Statcounter now does the last 500 page loads. Newbies probably get this automatically but old hands need to click on the spanner..... then on adjust log size. It is self explanatory from there.

I can't thank you all enough...
I have already had some results....with Statcounter.
What threw me was in the instructions it said the code was to go between the "body" and "body"/
and not to go anywhere else.....
a person giving help on the TNG forum...said to someone.........to put the coding in the footer.
and that is what you have said as well...
so ...
I did...
footer.php..........and footer.html
it was the footer.html ..........that worked. so I will go back and take it out of the footer.php
I had loaded the coding in the index.php...firstly and that was working for the front page....
I am so thrilled.....
