I am trying to find the families of Thomas ADAMS who would have been abt 10 years old and Rebecca MILLS also abt 10 years old. They married in Luton in 1852 so were hopefully with their family in the area 10 years prior. Thanking you in advance. Sorry I don't know the name of either of their parents.

I can only find this Rebecca Mills in Luton area 1851 Langley Gardens Luton Beds
Martha Holloway Head W 57 Pauper Shillington Beds William Holloway son U25 groom Barton Beds Theodora Holloway daughter U 20 Straw Bomnnet Plaiter Barton beds Ann Mills lodger W 54 Nurse Ireland (British Subject) Rebecca Mills Lodger 19 Straw Bonnett Plaiter Shefford beds HO107 1757 702 3
I cannot locate her in 1841
Purchase of the marriage cert would be a good idea -otherwise it's just guesswork.
The marriage cert would give you father's names and occupations, occupation of groom, ages of bride and groom and witnesses names -sometimes witnesses are family members.
There are many Thomas Adams -but none i can find in Luton

Wow, thank you so much for finding Rebecca. I've found a note which says Thomas Adams was born Hertford. I'm not sure if this will narrow things down to find him in the 1841 census. Now to find out what a fellmonger is .... again thank you so much

Fellmonger = the only man who can expertly strip the wool from the skin of a sheep and at the same time sort it into grades

This website is amazing - thank you again. From the info this morning I've found all of the children's christianings except for my Rebecca!!!! Thomas was born in Polton 1822 and has the middle name Angell which was used for some of the NZ born children also. William Randall Angell Mills born 1834 Hitchin and Catherine Taylor Mills born Hitchin 1838. No Rebecca!! I'll keep looking. Thank you again.

Hi I've had no luck locating a Thomas Adams born Hertfordshire c1831 - all likely candidates turn up in 1861 married to someone other than Rebecca. As Suz said think you'll have to get their marriage certificate to get any further with him. Regards Jan

Will the 1853 Marriage Certificate give their parents names?? I need help with English Certificates having never purchased or seen them before and understood they didn't contain parents names (as with birth/death as well). Perhaps I've been told wrong. Could you please clarify this for me as I'll purchase one straight away otherwise. Will death certs give parents names in particular those who died around the 1860 period in England? Thanks again.

You've been told wrong. Completely.
http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/indexbd.htm is a good site to understand what the various certificates include:
Certificates started in 1837, and it's these that we're referring to here, not entries in pre 1837 parish registers
Birth - names of both parents including mother's maiden name Marriage - names of both fathers Death - no parent details

Let us know when you have Thomas' Father's name and occupation - which as David said should be on the marriage cert - I will then have another scout round for him in 41/51.

MysticBreeze,
I explained the information to be found on a marriage cert when I suggested purchasing it.
In addition there will be (of course) the place where the marriage took place and the address they married from. Sometimes the age of the bride or groom will say "of full age" which means 21+ -usually this is when the couple are older or maybe marrying for a second time.
Rgistration began Sept qtr 1837
