Does anyone have any information about families called Harwood, Mason or Loveridge in the Cheshunt area, also Edmonton/Enfield? I am trying to tracemy mother's family but there is very little to go on. I know that her father was Charles Ross Harwood (b 1883 in Edmonton; living in Tottenham in 1901) and her mother Gertrude Ann Mason, and that they were married in 1909 in Edmonton. They had two children, Gladys Gertrude Maud (my mother), born 1911, and Kathleen Ivy, born 1913. Gertrude may have had a sister called Sarah, who may have had a granddaughter called Hazel; and in some way, I think on the Mason side, they were related to the concert pianist Iris Loveridge (1917 - 2000). Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

I have now found some more information on this - the unusual name of Loveridge providing the key. Henry W. Mason, born about 1851, married twice; Gertrude Ann was the youngest child of his first wife, Emily, and was born around 1881 in London. Emily's death is registered in 1882. Harriet J. Mason was the daughter of his second wife (also Harriet J.), and her marriage to George Loveridge was registered in 1912; Iris Loveridge was their daughter. The family was living in Cheshunt in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses, but had previously lived in central London. I still have not found a Sarah, though she could have been the wife of one of Gertrude and Harriet's several brothers. I would be very interested to hear from anyone else researching this family.

Hi Seglea, and welcome!
I don't have any Harwoods or Loveridges, but I do have some Hertfordshire Masons:
Samuel MASON (my great x5 grandfather) married Johannah ADAMS 3 Oct 1796
Their son (don't know about any other children), also Samuel MASON, was born 15 Aug 1802 in Standon, Herts and died 5 Jul 1879 in Wades Mill, Standon, Herts. He married (1) Hannah SIGGENS(b. c. 1790; d. 13 Apr 1856) in Standon on 5 Aug 1827; (2) Mary ?? (b. c. 1815, Braughing, Herts). The second marriage appears to have been without issue; while the ifrst produced three children:
Noah MASON (c. 1828 - 14 May 1854) Eliza MASON - my great x3 grandmother (b. c. 1831) Samuel MASON (c. 1835; m. Elizabeth PHILLIPS 6 Jul 1856 in High Cross, Herts)
Eliza MASON married Daniel COLLIS (b. c. 1830 Standon, Herts; d. 13 Mar 1913 Islington, London) on 27 Mary 1855 in Hoxton, Middx.

Thanks for responding, Aulus. I'm not sure your Masons are mine - I have now pushed mine back from Henry W., born 1850, to Thomas, born about 1825 in London. I can't find Thomas's birth family (though he seems to have married Ann Elizabeth Cockel or Cockel sometime in the late 1840s) - there are several Thomas Masons of the right age in the 1841 census and no way of telling them apart. My Masons seem to have been terrible stay-at-homes because the only Hertfordshire location they ever turn up in is Cheshunt.
