Hi i am looking for the marriage of a Joseph Thyer to a Mary Ann ? the marriage will have taken place before 1908 as this is when their first child was born. Any information would be grately appriciated.

Luckily, Canadian censuses give you what denomination they were:
In 1911, they were at:

Joseph was born in England, arrived in 1895, and the family were Anglican. First child born 1908 but no month given.
In 1901 Joseph was a lodger, the census details are:
District: QU MONTRÉAL (City/Cité)/175 (#175)
Subdistrict: Saint-Antoine (Ward/Quartier) A-33 Page 3

http://mesaieux.com/an/default.htm - if you go here and search under surnames for 'Thyer', there is a mention of a marriage of a Joseph Thyer and Mary Mcpherson, no details given other than 'before 1921'. In 1911 Mary Ann's birthdate is given as May 1888 in Quebec, and she is of Scottish ancestry. There ARE McPhersons in the same area as the Thyer family in 1911. (it appears that if you sign up for this database - seems to be free - then there might be more info).

I don't know if James Thyer is related or not, but here are his attestation papers. (I couldn't find any for Joseph)
