Some years have no searchable index available or perhaps not available for a particular area. A lot of this is explained on our Beginners Board which is worth reading. Are you sure that it is a "census" that you are looking for?

Thanks for your message; I was responding to SteveSims look-up offer of the Poll of the County of Hereford 1818, as I have Galletts as either landowners or tenants in Hereford prior to this date. Or have I misunderstood something?
I checked back and it seems that Steve Sims has not been active on this board for several months. I hope you have luck

Yes, I have been off the site for months - but just returned.
A poll is an election record (poll for Knights of the Shire), and is a useful census substitute covering freeholders and often listing tenants as well.
The 1818 poll is ordered by Hundred, then by first letter of the occupier's name (partial sort). Automatic searching of these old documents isn't so great, so it helps to have the Hundred name - then I can visually search the occupiers (most of whom are the freeholders anyway).
Just looking down the freeholders lists, there was 1 GALLETT and another possible:
Hundred / Freeholder / Residence / Place of Freehold / Occupier Broxash / Gillet John / Bromyard / Bromyard / himself Radlow / Gallett Thomas / Tarrington / Tarrington / himself
FWIW Thomas Gallett voted the same way as my g3-grandfather Joseph Pritchard - for Robert Price Esq (presumably "of Foxley").
A quick search also found a GALLET in the Herefordshire Field Names database at http://www.smr.herefordshire.gov.uk/hfn/db.php John Gallet at Stoke Edith in 1839 owned the fields Mayfields Croft and Gallets Coppice.
Cheers Steve

Many thanks for your help, and for the Herefordshire field names link - I had searched this already, and found it a very useful resource and a very user-friendly website design.
