Dunbar Instrumental Band, c. 1910

I have all names in my line. I have Margaret Comb (1858 - 1931), daughter of James Comb and Esther Thomson. Her mother-in-law was Margaret Marr (born c.1836 - 1885), daughter of Robert Marr and Margaret Stewart.
My Andersons are from Whittinghame, I think. I haven't proven it yet but I think the father of my 3x great-grandmother is Robert Anderson (c. 1803 -), who married Agnes Brown. His children with Agnes were William, Robert, George, Marion and Gilbert Elliot.
Hopefully someone has a connection!

Hello hume24 if you go on the first page and see gladys1 and click on my profile you will see my web site then on the first page on the left hand side you will see related sites and there is the Comb web site done by Barbara Mitting ( Combs ). James Combs and Esther Thomson are there. All my Combs are in there from Blyth Northld back to Dunbar. I got in touch with Barbara through finding her web site and i sent her all my Comb info and got more from her site. Its a wonderful web site. Let me know how you have come on. Gladys

I've just started this journey ! , but can trace direct descent down my father's male line from the "James Marr married Johanna Jamieson, they had a son, Charles who married Jane Kirke " mentioned by Robeena in an earlier reply.
Charles Marr & Jane Kirke also had a son called Charles, I believe the line goes:
Charles Marr(Fisherman, N.Berwick, James on his birth certificate ?)/Joan Jamieson
had son Charles Marr (Father Charles Marr, Mother Joan Jamieson) born 1835
Charles Marr(1835-1910, Fisherman, N.Berwick)/Jane Kirk(e)
had son Charles Marr born 1864
Charles Marr( 1864-1906), Fisherman, N.Berwick)/Margaret Clarence Dalrymple Thomson (Domestic Servant, later married to a Mr Wilkie)
had son Charles Marr( 1891-1957)
Charles Marr( Public Baths Boilerman, Leith)/Catherine Ferguson Russell
had son Charles Alexander Marr 1930 - who is my father.
Rgds, Gerry Marr

I haven't yet found a link between my Prestonpans/Haddington Marr's and the North Berwick ones, but I am sure there is a link there somewhere, possibly back a few generations in the earl 1700s. As my prestonpans marr's were also fisherman.

I think my life is tough till I remember Grandma.
|
I am a descendant of the Marr's of Dunbar. My grandmother, after whom I am names, was the youngest daughter of Robert Marr and Martha Sloan. I am not sure if my Robert Marr is the same as the one married to Margaret Stewart, because I thinkl she died after the birth of their second daughter Mary. As my Robert Marr was 49 when he married my great grandmother it seems fair enough that he may have been married before.
I am named after my grandmother, Ann(ie) Marr, who was born in 1868 and died in 1920 having married John Robertson in Edinburgh and produced 9 children.

Hi Ann,
Just came across your post through a Google search - even though I've posted on this thread before!
It seems very likely that the same Robert Marr (b. North Berwick) was married to Margaret Stewart and then to your great-grandmother, Martha Sloan. Margaret (Stewart) died in 1847 and Robert was described as widowed in 1851. In 1852, he married Martha and by 1861, they had 5 children together. Robert's daughter, Margaret, was not staying with them as she had already married to William Gullan in 1857.

Gerry
Just signed onto this yesterday and picked up on your note last year.
Thought you would like to know, your grandfather Charles Marr had a brother Alfred Marr who married Mary Hogg. They in turn had a son Fred Marr (who I have just learnt sadly recently passed away) and a daughter Margaret Thomson Marr who married John Turner in 1945. Margaret & John are my parents (Mum is now 87 and Dad is 89).
Hope all is well?
Cheers, Ian
